Being outside of camp grounds with her newly assigned mentor, Granitemask, was exciting for sure. Cosmopaw probably would have been a lot more excited to see these surroundings if it had been her first time out in SkyClan territory, but it wasn't. With her father being Clan leader, she had been spoiled a bit by familial privilege. Firestar had brought her and her siblings out of camp before to sneak them in some experience and knowledge. Perhaps he wanted to impress them as "the cool dad" or he just wanted his kits to have fun or to succeed above other apprentices, she didn't know for sure. At her own credence, Cosmopaw believed that he just wanted to show his kits a good time.
The same couldn't be said for her friend, Cranepaw, though. The small tom was a sickly thing. He had been confined to the nursery for almost his entire kithood, for he wasn't well enough to play outside as often or as long as his siblings. She felt bad for him. Surely he wanted to have fun like every other young cat, right? Yet, he was left alone in his own nest most of the time while his littermates went and lived their lives. Because of this, Cosmopaw had taken time to visit him every so often to keep him company. It wasn't fair for him to be lonely just because he had a sensitivity of sorts with his body- that's how she felt.
Even now, the tortie hung back as their mentors lead the way to stay by Cranepaw's side. "How are you holding up? Do we need to take a break?" she questioned, her voice soft and genuine as she glanced down at him. Sometimes she cursed her main coon genetics. She felt a little imposing sometimes just because of her large body and as she matured, so did her frame. She hoped that her newfound height didn't intimidate her friend.

The sheepish grin Cranepaw offered her made her worry for a moment, just a moment, that her height was indeed a problem for him. But then his little chirp and happy gestures made that concern vanish right before her. Cosmopaw relaxed, relieved to hear that her friend was faring well and that his health wasn’t flaring up for the worst. “If it gets bad, speak up, okay?” She told him gently, “We have all the time in the world, taking a break is no trouble at all.Her navy eyes glanced ahead at their mentors, who didn’t yet seem annoyed at them for chatting amongst themselves instead of paying attention to their surroundings- learning the territory. A part of her hoped they agreed with her relaxed way of seeing things, but more than that, she feared that perhaps they just couldn’t be bothered with them.
“Hm?” A small trill left the tortoiseshell at her companion’s question. “Oh, my morning was fine, a lot of the usual,” she replied, “you know, helping my mom take care of my younger siblings. Firestar has a lot to deal with lately, so if I can help my parents out by tending to my brothers and sisters, then it’s the least I could do.”
“What about you?” Cosmopaw returned the question, “Up to anything exciting lately?”
Cranepaw

Here he was, out in the big wide world, just like he'd always wanted. Just like everyone else. It was everything he'd ever wanted, and just as he dreamed it would be... right? His whiskers twitched nervously at every strange sound he heard, every bird's shadow... maybe Antpaw was right, maybe he was too wimpy to be called a clan cat. Antpaw was a slightly older apprentice that always had something nasty to say to Cranepaw when nobody else was around, and sometimes the other tom's words hurt a lot. He wouldn't tell anybody about it though, because everyone worried about him enough already. Cranepaw's ear's flattened slightly and he deflated. Should he just ask Blizzardspirit to take him home before he embarrassed himself?
He was shaken from his distressing thoughts when he felt a soft pelt brush lightly against his own to get his attention. His fur grew just a bit warmer, and he really hoped Cosmopaw wouldn't be able to tell. As her voice reached his ears, he felt that same weird flutter in his stomach that he'd been feeling quite often recently. It would flare up every time the other apprentice spoke to him, and he just couldn't figure out what was causing it! It was like he'd swallowed a bunch of moths whole and they were just fluttering around in his belly. He knew that he was supposed to tell his parents or the medicine cat any time he started feeling funny, but he just couldn't bring himself to tell anyone about this feeling. What if he'd suddenly become allergic to Cosmopaw? If that was the case, she wouldn't be allowed to come near him anymore! The thought alone was almost enough to make him cry out in despair, but he managed to hold his tongue and play it cool. Well, as cool as he could be, anyway. Being a bit twitchy and awkward was rather normal for Cranepaw. Cosmopaw was really his only friend that wasn't one of his littermates, so the though of losing her friendship frightened him more than he wanted to admit.
In response to her question, he offered a sheepish grin as he looked up at her. He didn't mind having to look up at her when they talked, since he'd pretty much always looked up at others when they spoke to him. He did hope that he wouldn't always be so much shorter than her, though. He didn't want Cosmopaw to hurt her neck looking down at him all the time. "I'm alright, I think I'll be fine for a while!" He chirped, waving his tail happily. He often stretched the truth when it came to his energy levels, but for once he was actually being genuine. Aside from his nerves, he felt pretty good. Though, like many other aspects of his health, that was liable to change as they the little group went about today's business. He'd been having more good days as of late, and he really hoped this continued to be one."So, uh... how was your morning? Before we left and everything?"
