Piedwren
riverclan warrior
Another day, another hunting patrol... Piedwren never enjoyed these duties, especially considering how bad he actually was at hunting. His fur wasn't made for the water, much less cold water. He was ShadowClan by blood, and had never been able to get comfortable in the water. Lazy green eyes rolling toward his companion, his tail flicking in boredom, the tom breathed a heavy sigh. "Isn't it cold?" he complained, turning his eyes back on the water blow him. There were a few small fish darting here and there, but they didn't seem worth the effort to catch. They didn't look like they'd even be enough to fill a kit's belly, so what was the point?
Reaching out a paw carefully, Piedwren scooped one of the fish out of the water, dropping it onto the rocks beside him. "Who is this even gonna feed?" he groaned, "All the good fish have already hidden from us." He cast a glance at the pitiful pile he'd managed to catch so far-- consisting of only one decent-sized catfish and a few much smaller fish. Lowering his chin to his paws, the tabby tom lashed his tail in annoyance.

Rolling his eyes with a sigh, Piedwren couldn't help but admit that he kind of deserved the scolding. If he had kept his lips shut, they'd probably have had more luck with their hunt. But what was the point in focusing so hard just to feed a couple cats a single meal? Surely there were better things they could be doing with their time. "You got a point, I guess," he conceded, dipping his toes in the chilly water to scoop up another pitiful fish. Ears flicking as the other cat announced a coming end to their hunting trip, the tom seemed to perk up. He became intently focused on the surface of the water, his posture stiffening as he made the choice to put all his energy into ending this torture. If only he worked so hard when first starting out, he might be more effective in his duties.
A silence fell over them as he stared down into the water, his tail tip flicking in concentration. A small fish came just into his reach, and he slowly reached out his paw toward it. Waiting for the perfect time, the tom snapped his paw into the water in an attempt to catch the fish. He managed to get it out of the water, but with a plink it dropped right back in, swimming out of reach before he could even attempt to recover it. Mouth dropping open in horror, eyes widening, Piedwren smacked his paw down onto the gravel beneath him, internally melting down in response to his failure. "Aah, fins!" he spat, tail lashing behind him.
