The wake of senseless tragedy always brought self-awareness to those in grieving. Waspsight was no different. In his younger years, he thought that the devastation of death didn’t apply to him like it did to others- he thought his gift to communicate with the dead made him invulnerable to loss. One day, he learned that he was terribly wrong. The impact of Applepaw’s death and the effect it had on him that day was immense. Applepaw’s sacrifice opened his eyes to the agony a cat experienced when their body expired and Waspsight dwelled heavily on his own ignorance for a very long time after.
If it weren’t for Scorpionthroat and his dedication, he might have lost his beliefs in grief. The smokey-silver tom had always been by his side to support him in his darkest moments and this time in his life was no different. ShadowClan had been through many changes this moon- between Juncostar’s sudden death and the tragedy that shortly followed with Mercuryrose’s departure, Waspsight had found himself uneasy on his own paws. Neither one of their spirits had come to him and it reminded him of Applepaw’s demise all over again.
The calico tom rolled over in his nest and the first thing he saw was the peaceful expression of his mate, deeply asleep with his nose buried into his paws. It was a gesture that was so soft and cute, so unlike Scorpionthroat, and it was the one thing only Waspsight got to see. This sight, first thing in the morning, soothed his soul. The medicine cat sighed gently through his nose and huddled up close to his husband.
“Scorpion,” He murmured, quietly urging the tom awake with a name at the tip of his tongue that he hadn’t called him since their apprentice days. And sure enough, the silver tom’s orange-red eyes blinked awake in heartbeats, unfocused with sleep and incredibly precious from his point of view. “Good morning.” He purred, his face tender with love as he watched Scorpionthroat fully awaken. “How did you sleep?”
They went about their morning small talk and routine, going about their preparations for the day as usual before Waspsight paused and stopped Scorpionthroat. “Scorpionthroat, let’s… Let’s start a family.”
Scorpionthroat |Blunt Sword of Shadowclan|
Deep thoughtless sleep clung onto Scorpionthroat tightly, the tired warrior welcomed the dreamless sleep as nights of continuous night terrors had often plagued him as of late. The titanium tabby tom knew his restlessness was due to the fear and worry that something could happen to his beloved mate, Waspsight. The fact that the high ranks seemed to be dying unexpectedly left and right had Scorpion rightfully worried and cautious. He knew everyone was grieving but it was quite obvious to Scorp that his husband was taking it harder than most.
More than a few times the warrior had caught his mate staring off into space or muttering Juncostar’s and Mercuryrose’s names under his breath as if pleading for them to appear before him. It made the usual blunt and abrasive tomcat’s heart clench as he knew that Waspsight longed to see their spirits one last time. A soft sigh escapes him as he burrows his nose more In between his paws, hating when his nose got cold while sleeping. Just when he goes to fall back into a deep slumber does he hear the soft calming voice of Waspsight, trying to urge him awake.
Groaning as he refuses to wake up, instead he blindly reaches a paw out, wrapping around Wasp’s small waist, dragging the smaller male closer. Laying his head in the crook of Wasp’s neck as he mutters, “Let’s go back to sleep. No one will know” he grumbles stubbornly. Who needed medical attention at this time in a morning? Those who did could bugger off until he said so. Sadly, his more stubborn mate would not allow him to fall back into peaceful slumber. Ears twitching at Wasp’s soothing whisper as the smaller calico coaxes him awake.
Huffing to himself as he slowly moves his head away from the warmth of Wasp’s neck. Blinking his honey crimson eyes sleepily up at the wide awake Waspsight. “You are lucky you are cute” Scorp says, his voice gruff from sleep still clinging to him. “Good morning” he quietly purrs as he nuzzles his husband affectionately, he always wanted to make sure to greet his mate adoringly every morning. “Best sleep I have had in a while” he honestly replies as he reluctantly allows Wasp to wiggle his way out of his grasp to continue his morning routine.
“Seems like you slept well yourself” he observes as his more alert gaze follows the smaller form of Wasp as the medicine cat waltz back and forth around the den, busying himself. Grunting to himself as he rises into a sitting position, clicking his tongue against the roof of his tongue at seeing his silver fur sticking up in odd angles. After a few moments of peaceful silence between the two as Scorp begins to groom himself does Waspsight break the silence.
Now, he had sensed there was something on his husbands mind, as it did not slip his notice that Wasp had called him ‘Scorpion’ when waking him and not ‘Scorp’ as he was use to. Yet, nothing could have prepared him for Waspsight’s sudden declaration, the surprise shocks Scorpion to the point he chokes on his own spit. Pausing in his grooming as his crimson honey eyes widen and shoot up to share at the nervous face of his mate. Body stilling as he processes what Wasp was asking, his breath hitching as he intently studied the calico tom, searching his beautiful heterochromia eyes to see if he was indeed serious.
Seeing no playfulness in his gaze causes a small smile to form on Scorpion’s lips. “I…uh I mean are you sure? I know we talked about eventually starting a family when you gained an apprentice” he stutters adorably before clearing his throat. “Of course I would love to start a family with you” he finally answers as he makes his way over to his nervous mate. “If you are ready then so am I” he reassures even though deep down he was still terrified that he wouldn’t be a good father.
