Figkit
🌱 Kit of ThunderClan 🌱
"Hello!?" A squeaky prepubescent voice called out into the den, eventually echoing off the walls. "Peachblossom?" Figkit tried again, sticking his head awkwardly into the crack between the rocks which gave way to the den. The young tom squinted his eyes, trying to spot the healer in her nest.
He remembered her den vaguely from when she had treated him on his first night in the clan- muttering apologies for the state of it as she was currently living in the nursery, and even offered him a place to stay amongst one of her litters. He was grateful to the queen, although he had yet to say his thanks or really actually speak to her since his first night in the clan.
That morning when Gravelstar approached him, he was scared he had done something wrong. 'Peachblossom wants to see me? It must be important,' the elder kit had decided upon seeing the look on his leader's face- as if he knew something Figkit did not.
'This is it Figkit!' his uncle had whispered excitedly into his ear, purring in excitement for his day to come. 'Your day has finally arrived-' with a twitch of his ear Figkit shook his uncle's thoughts out of his head and headed towards his destination.
Now in the cave, the apprentice had grown unbelievably nervous at the prospect of seeing the healer. What if she was mad at him for accidentally rolling over onto Opalkit last night? It was an accident! He didn't mean to startle her!
Upon seeing the healer the tall lad seemed find some sort of courage as he awkwardly squawked out- "Gravelstar said you need me?"
Peachblossom giggled softly as she walked over to the tom kit. It was odd to still call such a tall cat “kit” still. Granted to her it was because she was short but he was already taller than the molly. Sitting back on her back legs, her front paws left the ground, one of them resting one of her front paws on his cheek, “I would be honored to have the chance to train you as my apprentice.” Peachblossom took this opportunity to take a better look in Figkits eyes; the healer firmly believed you could judge a cat by their eyes. Giving a silent nod she dropped back down to the ground. “You'd do amazing as a healer Figkit.”
Seeing the excitement in the young tom when his paws excitedly danced across the floor at his new options. His actions sent a wave of warm feelings surging throughout her small paws; she remembered back when Softbelly first offered her the chance to change her destiny and become a healer rather than being on the front lines of the battlefield like her father wanted her to be. While kits are taught early on what the clan roles are, most already know that they want to be a warrior, with the hopes of being a leader in the future, meanwhile fighting never interested the spicy molly. Despite her harsh tongue and attitude she enjoyed helping her clanmates by healing them and acting as therapist at times for them. “Yes, I would teach you about all the herbs and their uses as well as how you’d use them to heal our family. But it's more than just healing, sometimes you would need to be a comfortable soul for distressed cats to lean on. You would also act as a bridge between Starclan and Thunderclan, and in times of need Gravelstar may seek out your opinion on clan happenings.”
“If it makes you more comfortable for the first few days then you can, but normally you'd move your nest here with me. Though the den might be a bit crowded as once my kittens are born they will be sleeping in here until their eyes open and then they will be moved to the nursery during the day and returning here at night.”

Figkit's anxiety quelled as soon as he saw the warmth in Peachblossom's eyes, knowing instantly that he wasn't in trouble. But.. if he wasn't in trouble, then what did the healer want? Curious, he followed her lead and moved to sit beside her.
With his back straight and ears taut and curious, he almost towered over her, but when he looked down at her it was obvious there was no disrespect in his eyes. The elder kit wiggled under her gaze, hoping that whatever she was looking for, that he was it.
He listened to her speech carefully. When he'd first arrived the kits in the nursery had excitedly told him about each role of the clan- but he never knew that there was only one healer in the clan.
And although his uncle had been preparing him for clan life, he never knew his paws would lead him here! "Me? You want me?" the kit asked, eyes widening in shock as he took in the weight of the medicine cat's words. She wanted him to be her apprentice!
He'd been told that apprentices were made into warriors, and that he would have to spend the rest of his life hunting and fighting in the forest- the catch was, Figkit had never truly been interested in any of that.
"I..." he was at a loss for words- wanting to say yes immediately, stamping his feet in excitement at the prospect. "What.. so I would use your herbs to heal people?"
"I wouldn't have to sleep in the Apprentices' Den would I?" He asked, his face scrunching at the idea. He'd seen that mean she-cat Hazelpaw go in there last night and he wanted to be exactly wherever she wasn't!
Peachblossom brought a paw up to her face, giving her tired eye a quick rub. The queen was already getting very little sleep due to her extremely rough pregnancy but last night she had to deal with a crying Opalkit who had been suddenly awoke from her slumber when the much larger Figkit accidentally rolled over her. Peachblossom took in the young tom kit since she already had a litter in the nursery and Figkit was an adorable little kit…well that was the issue Figkit wasn't exactly ‘little’ he had long limbs and was in the rapidly growing stage of his life. He was already much too large for the crowded nursery. The healer had already been looking at all the kits for any potential as an apprentice for her, her next litter was due any day now and the extra paws would take a lot of stress off the high strung molly. Figkits arrival worked out perfectly for Peachblossom, his dementor reminded the healer of her best friend, Hareflight, who was an amazing medicine cat of Shadowclan, therefore Peachblossom saw a lot of promise in the young tom kit. Ever since Wildstar left Peachblossom had been unsure of Gravelstar but after setting a meeting with the leader, who eagerly listened to all her words and suggestions with Figkit, she felt more confident in their leader who also agreed to allow Peachblossom to take in Figkit as her apprentice, if the tom kit wanted too of course. Gravelstar offered to fetch Figkit for her, which she appreciated, but maybe having someone like the leader suddenly approaching him might scare the kit. I hope he doesn't think anyone is mad at him…
Almost as if on cue the brown and white tom kit's voice pierced her ears, causing them to twitch slightly before whipping around to greet him. “Hello young one.” Peachblossoms voice softened anytime she spoke with kittens in general but ever more so since she became a mother, knowing it calms them down. “Yes I did wish to talk to you about something rather important.” Inviting the tom to take a seat next to her. She couldn't handle being on her paws for extended periods of time anymore. Her eyes study the feline, the sudden guilt of her first apprentice washing over her. She knew better than anyone how taxing this job can be, between the way to realistic dreams, the pressure of knowing if a cat dies the blame will more than likely fall onto the medicine cat; it can be overwhelming at times. Peachblossom pushed all her negative thoughts away. She had to be more confident in herself, her training, and in Figkit, she believed he could handle it and if he couldnt, Peachblossom would be right there for him. “Figkit, as i'm sure you know I am the sole medicine cat of Thunderclan, meaning i'm in charge of making sure everyone here in Thunderclan is healthy. It's not that easy but it's very rewarding. If you're interested I'd like to train you to be Thunderclans next medicine cat. I think you show a lot of potential and would really excel at this job.”
“I know it can be a tough decision to make at your age so please ask questions and take your time to think it through. My sweet little Figkit”
