W A S P S I G H T
The newly named healer nosed his way under the hanging fern that shielded the nursery entrance, while tenderly holding a bundle of leaves in his jaws. He had received a report that Mercuryrose's newborn, Ravenkit had developed a bit of a cold. The new mother seemed awfully anxious over her kit's health, not like he could blame her. Colds, if left undiagnosed or untreated, could get pretty nasty. Thankfully, however, the queen had a good support system in having two medicine cats that she could rely on during the cold season. Hareflight was preoccupied tending to Crash, so Waspsight went in her place to check in on the little kit.
He spotted Mercuryrose's nest and made his way over to her. "Good morning, Mercuryrose. I hope you're fairing well today," he mewed to her in greeting, setting his herbs down gently by his side. The mottled queen gave him a somewhat stiff response, which surprised him somewhat. By now, most of the Clan had warmed up to him and respected him. He wasn't the ostracized kit that spoke to the dead anymore. Or, so he thought... Perhaps he was naïve in thinking that he had earned his place in ShadowClan. Deciding not to let it bother him, Waspsight's attention turned to the kit in need.
"Hi, Ravenkit," he smiled softly, crouching down to get into eye-level with the black tom, "I'm going to look at that runny nose of yours and see what I can do about why you're not feeling well. I'm going to need you to be brave while I check a few things out, okay?" He waited for the kit's approval, receiving a little nod from the tiny tom before he began his check-up. He started by urging the kit's head up and requesting that he open his mouth wide with a big ahh, taking this chance to look into the inside of Ravenkit's throat. It didn't seem swollen or too red, which were both good signs. It told him that the kit's cold hadn't become too serious and that they could stop it before it progressed into something potentially worse. Just to be sure, Waspsight also took a look at the inside of the little tom's ears and gave his paw pads and nose a little temperature check. As far as he could tell, Ravenkit was suffering from the cold temperature outside and nothing more serious than that. Relieved, the calico healer sat upright and turned to report to Mercuryrose. "It looks to me to be a simple case of Leaf-Bare chills. He's not feverish and he hasn't developed a cough. I'm going to prescribe him plenty of water and nest-rest." Waspsight offered the queen a reassuring smile and bent down to the bundle he had brought with him.
With him he had prepared coltsfoot and feverfew for the worst-case scenario, but it seemed as though he didn't need to go through with treating Ravenkit for any coughs or high fevers. Instead, he took out a couple of poppy seeds and a leaf he had slathered with some sweet nectar. He carefully dropped the seeds onto the leafe and nosed them around so that they were coated properly. Then, he nudged them over to Ravenkit. "Here, Ravenkit. Take some of these. They'll make you sleepy, but sleep is what you need right now." He watched as the little kit obediently did as he was told and then he nodded with satisfaction. Waspsight peeled his eyes away from the little back tom and once more returned his attention to his mother. "Being curled up in the nest with you and his siblings should be enough to get his body temperature back up. Between that, rest, and keeping a good eye on him, I'm sure he'll be fine. Can I help you with anything else, Mercuryrose?"
Mercuryrose
Shadowclan Queen
Watching the small tom with narrowed eyes, she observed the scrawny and smaller tom before releasing a snort. Waspsight was really trying to observe her, judge her.. Make some kind of final decision on her. In all honesty, the black and rose-gold molly didn't mind at all, it meant that the tom was smart enough to not trust too easily. Mercuryrose couldn’t deny that she didn’t have the best proper social skills, and if anything scared away a couple of cats that had spoken to her in the past. Pushing the piece of pretty towards Waspsight, she let out an irritated sigh “Waspsight, you come sit closer. I’m not going to chase you.” Mercuryrose grumbled, watching the tom look at her for a moment before the molly beckoned for him to sit closer. Her nose scrunched slightly at the smell of herbs that came off his pelt, but remained polite as she didn’t want to tell him that he smelled too strong of herbs.. At least that scent of honey was still there, so it wasn’t that horrible
“I see my little Ravenkit has taken an interest in you.” The Shadowclan queen said, watching Waspsight’s facial expression before turning awa y to take another bite out of her meal and chewed carefully before swallowing it and cleared her throat “You better be a good influence on my son, and if you don’t.. You’ll be dealing with his other mother during your next medicine meeting.” The molly said with a sweet smile, before narrowing her eyes once more and licking her face to groom her face before getting up and leaving momentarily.. The large Maine Coon seemed to have left camp for a couple of moments, and it probably caused Waspsight to assume that she simply left him alone.. But the molly came back moments later, with some moss dipped in water and a shiny black shell at the other side of her mouth and dropped it nearby Waspsight “You will be a dear for me, and do me a favor..”
“I found this shiny shell the other day while I was out with Mintstrike.. Now he was given a beautiful red canary feather from his other mother when we left Thunderclan, and he cherishes it very dearly.. Me and Mintstrike wanted to give him something nice but..” Mercuryrose said, and pushed the black shell towards Waspsight and released a small snort “I think it would mean a lot for his new friend to give him such a lovely gift.” Mercuryrose said, showing a different side to her as she showed love for her son. It meant that the black and rose-gold molly trusted Waspsight, wanted him to be in Ravenkit’s life. She couldn’t help but think that maybe Waspsight wasn’t a scared little scrawny cat as she first thought, but he heard a huge heart within him. It was quite rare these days.
“Tell me Waspsight, why did you wanna become a medicine cat?” She questioned, quite curious about what drove the tom to become a healer instead of a warrior like his siblings.. But for some reason, becoming a healer seemed to fit the small tom in front of her. In a way, Mercuryrose felt a feeling of protectiveness for the small tom, like she didn’t want to see that light taken out of him.
