W A S P S I G H T
The newly named healer nosed his way under the hanging fern that shielded the nursery entrance, while tenderly holding a bundle of leaves in his jaws. He had received a report that Mercuryrose's newborn, Ravenkit had developed a bit of a cold. The new mother seemed awfully anxious over her kit's health, not like he could blame her. Colds, if left undiagnosed or untreated, could get pretty nasty. Thankfully, however, the queen had a good support system in having two medicine cats that she could rely on during the cold season. Hareflight was preoccupied tending to Crash, so Waspsight went in her place to check in on the little kit.
He spotted Mercuryrose's nest and made his way over to her. "Good morning, Mercuryrose. I hope you're fairing well today," he mewed to her in greeting, setting his herbs down gently by his side. The mottled queen gave him a somewhat stiff response, which surprised him somewhat. By now, most of the Clan had warmed up to him and respected him. He wasn't the ostracized kit that spoke to the dead anymore. Or, so he thought... Perhaps he was naïve in thinking that he had earned his place in ShadowClan. Deciding not to let it bother him, Waspsight's attention turned to the kit in need.
"Hi, Ravenkit," he smiled softly, crouching down to get into eye-level with the black tom, "I'm going to look at that runny nose of yours and see what I can do about why you're not feeling well. I'm going to need you to be brave while I check a few things out, okay?" He waited for the kit's approval, receiving a little nod from the tiny tom before he began his check-up. He started by urging the kit's head up and requesting that he open his mouth wide with a big ahh, taking this chance to look into the inside of Ravenkit's throat. It didn't seem swollen or too red, which were both good signs. It told him that the kit's cold hadn't become too serious and that they could stop it before it progressed into something potentially worse. Just to be sure, Waspsight also took a look at the inside of the little tom's ears and gave his paw pads and nose a little temperature check. As far as he could tell, Ravenkit was suffering from the cold temperature outside and nothing more serious than that. Relieved, the calico healer sat upright and turned to report to Mercuryrose. "It looks to me to be a simple case of Leaf-Bare chills. He's not feverish and he hasn't developed a cough. I'm going to prescribe him plenty of water and nest-rest." Waspsight offered the queen a reassuring smile and bent down to the bundle he had brought with him.
With him he had prepared coltsfoot and feverfew for the worst-case scenario, but it seemed as though he didn't need to go through with treating Ravenkit for any coughs or high fevers. Instead, he took out a couple of poppy seeds and a leaf he had slathered with some sweet nectar. He carefully dropped the seeds onto the leafe and nosed them around so that they were coated properly. Then, he nudged them over to Ravenkit. "Here, Ravenkit. Take some of these. They'll make you sleepy, but sleep is what you need right now." He watched as the little kit obediently did as he was told and then he nodded with satisfaction. Waspsight peeled his eyes away from the little back tom and once more returned his attention to his mother. "Being curled up in the nest with you and his siblings should be enough to get his body temperature back up. Between that, rest, and keeping a good eye on him, I'm sure he'll be fine. Can I help you with anything else, Mercuryrose?"
Mercuryrose
Shadowclan Queen
Watching the small tom with narrowed eyes, she observed the scrawny and smaller tom before releasing a snort. Waspsight was really trying to observe her, judge her.. Make some kind of final decision on her. In all honesty, the black and rose-gold molly didn't mind at all, it meant that the tom was smart enough to not trust too easily. Mercuryrose couldn’t deny that she didn’t have the best proper social skills, and if anything scared away a couple of cats that had spoken to her in the past. Pushing the piece of pretty towards Waspsight, she let out an irritated sigh “Waspsight, you come sit closer. I’m not going to chase you.” Mercuryrose grumbled, watching the tom look at her for a moment before the molly beckoned for him to sit closer. Her nose scrunched slightly at the smell of herbs that came off his pelt, but remained polite as she didn’t want to tell him that he smelled too strong of herbs.. At least that scent of honey was still there, so it wasn’t that horrible
“I see my little Ravenkit has taken an interest in you.” The Shadowclan queen said, watching Waspsight’s facial expression before turning awa y to take another bite out of her meal and chewed carefully before swallowing it and cleared her throat “You better be a good influence on my son, and if you don’t.. You’ll be dealing with his other mother during your next medicine meeting.” The molly said with a sweet smile, before narrowing her eyes once more and licking her face to groom her face before getting up and leaving momentarily.. The large Maine Coon seemed to have left camp for a couple of moments, and it probably caused Waspsight to assume that she simply left him alone.. But the molly came back moments later, with some moss dipped in water and a shiny black shell at the other side of her mouth and dropped it nearby Waspsight “You will be a dear for me, and do me a favor..”
“I found this shiny shell the other day while I was out with Mintstrike.. Now he was given a beautiful red canary feather from his other mother when we left Thunderclan, and he cherishes it very dearly.. Me and Mintstrike wanted to give him something nice but..” Mercuryrose said, and pushed the black shell towards Waspsight and released a small snort “I think it would mean a lot for his new friend to give him such a lovely gift.” Mercuryrose said, showing a different side to her as she showed love for her son. It meant that the black and rose-gold molly trusted Waspsight, wanted him to be in Ravenkit’s life. She couldn’t help but think that maybe Waspsight wasn’t a scared little scrawny cat as she first thought, but he heard a huge heart within him. It was quite rare these days.
“Tell me Waspsight, why did you wanna become a medicine cat?” She questioned, quite curious about what drove the tom to become a healer instead of a warrior like his siblings.. But for some reason, becoming a healer seemed to fit the small tom in front of her. In a way, Mercuryrose felt a feeling of protectiveness for the small tom, like she didn’t want to see that light taken out of him.

Waspsight flinched internally at Mercuryrose's reprimands. Ah, I should have told the mother what I was giving her kit first, shouldn't I have? He scolded himself mentally. Hareflight wouldn't have made a mistake like that, but he supposed that he would do small misses like that here and there while he made routine checks on his own. At least he was confident that his diagnosis wasn't wrong. It was just the steps he took that he would have to polish more.
Before he knew it, the mood in the nursery has changed. Ravenkit was excitedly chirping about his scent. Oh, I suppose he likes the smell of the medicine cat den. He thought to himself, parting his jaws to reply to the little tom, only to close them as he ran off to his mother and whispered something to her. His paws froze in place as Mercuryrose got up and headed in his direction. He stiffened, remembering what he had been told previously to be careful around the short-tempered queen. According to Hareflight, she had chased many cats out of the nursery previously to his entry.
To his relief, the mottled queen didn't snap her jaws at him. Instead, she turned back to her kit and instructed him to listen to his orders. The calico tom did his best not to shrink with relief, with his body slowly relaxing itself. He wasn't too surprised when the queen starting huffing orders at him, figuring that she was used to telling other cats what to do. Obediently, Waspsight tucked his head and turned out of the nursery to find Dahliapetal.
When he had fetched her, he waited for her to enter the den and to relieve Mercuryrose. But to his surprise, when the queen exited the nursery, she had invited him to share the meal with her. Baffled, he stood still. Moments ago, she was harsh as the rapids to him and now she was wanting to share her meal with him? Unsure of what to make of it, he hesitantly joined her side. He waited for her to take a few bites of the bird before he slowly leaned over and took a nip or two of his own. "Uhm, thank you." He said, his voice soft and barely above a whisper. Even though he was a fully named healer, he felt flighty around Mercuryrose. There was just something about her that was... Scary. Unpredictable, even. He just knew that he didn't want to push his luck with her.
Mercuryrose Shadowclan Queen “Mom! Someone is here to see us!” An excited voice said beside Mercuryrose. Dark green-pink eyes opened slightly while a frown appeared on her lips. Ravenkit was laying beside her and was about to say something else until a sneeze escaped him. The rose-gold and black molly raised her head to lick her son’s head, as he was recovering from his little sneeze. Ravenkit had this little cold for a couple of days now, it was partly thanks to Mellowfrost when the deputy decided to sit with the young kit at the front entrance of the nursery and explained the camp to him. The cream and brown tom had good intentions, but perhaps he shouldn’t have left Ravenkit near the front entrance of the nursery for so long. When Mintstrike came to visit this morning, he mentioned that Hareflight would come check on Ravenkit today. Although the brown tom wasn’t Ravenkit’s biological father, he treated the black and white kit as his own. The Shadowclan warrior had been one of the first cats to try and befriend Mercuryrose as her grumpy attitude was well known with Shadowclan. The moment that Ravenkit had started calling Mintstrike ‘Dad’, he pulled Mercuryrose aside and explained that he wouldn’t force himself into their lives.. But the rose-gold and black molly stopped him and told him that if he wishes to claim Ravenkit as his son.. Then they would raise their son together. Mercuryrose never admitted, but she tolerates the brown tom better than others. Huh, who knew?
Mercuryrose’s eyes narrowed slightly when seeing Waspsight approaching them, watching him carefully “Hello Waspsight.” The molly simply said, watching Ravenkit going towards the calico tom with his tail high. The molly wasn’t very familiar with the male healer, as it had usually been Hareflight who came to visit Ravenkit since he arrived safely back from Thunderclan. Hareflight had most likely dealt with cats like Mercuryrose as the female calico showed that she had no bad intentions around Ravenkit early on within their interactions. It took a while, but Mercuryrose began to trust Hareflight around her son. However, this was a new cat around the small black and white kit.. Which meant a new potential danger. The Shadowclan Queen had watched Waspsight closely, observing him. Mercuryrose could tell that her stand-off attitude was somewhat bothering Waspsight due to the healer not keeping eye contact with her, but she wanted to watch how he was like before coming to a final judgement. She could care less if he saw or talked with spirits, the molly had seen weirder cats within the city. Looking over at her son, she saw that the little tom was listening to Waspsight and even had a smile on his face. But one wrong move, or so even a whine from Ravenkit.. Which would end up in a result of Mercuryrose chasing the poor healer out of the nursery (Trust me, she already chased Mintstrike out of the den a couple of times. But that silly tom kept coming back)
“Mom! He brought a treat like Miss Hareflight does!” Ravenkit squeaked, after watching Waspsight unwrap a huge leaf that revealed a couple of herbs. Mercuryrose’s eyes narrowed her eyes when peeking over before leaning back with a snort. Thankfully for Waspsight, Hareflight was patient enough to explain whatever herbs that Ravenkit would be eating, as Mercuryrose was anxious whenever a new herb was presented. “Hmph, you have a brain. I was worried that you would give him too many Poppyseeds.” Mercuryrose muttered, it was an insult.. But also, a compliment at the same time. Watching her son settling down, Ravenkit lapped up the poppyseeds covered in honey before licking his lips. Moments later, his amber eyes widened slightly “You smell nice!” The black and white kit squeaked before getting up and padding closer to sniff at the medicine cat, the smell of herbs. Turning back and giggling, Ravenkit suddenly ran towards Mercuryrose and beckoned for her to lean down so he could whisper something into her ear. Moments later, the rose-gold and black Maine Coon got up from her nest and made her way towards Waspsight.
With her eyes narrowed and a frown on her face, Mercuryrose watched Waspsight for a moment with a clenched jaw. At the corner of her eye, she noticed that Wildflower was watching the interaction with slightly widened eyes and her tail brought her kits closer. It was silent for a moment, as everyone was thinking that the molly would now chase off Waspsight because of something that Ravenkit said. It wasn’t until Mercuryrose leaned slightly down to sniff Waspsight, and noticed that he was frozen in place. Narrowing her eyes, she stepped back and looked towards Ravenkit “His natural scent isn’t Honey, Ravenkit. He only smells like it because he was giving you it with your poppyseeds.” She said, narrowing her eyes playfully at her son with a small smile on her face. The black and white kit pouted for a moment before a huge yawn escaped him. Mercuryrose padded to her nest and nuzzled her kit “Listen to Mister Waspsight now, you need rest.” She said before turning to look at the male calico “Be useful and bring me Dahliapetal.. She’s in the clearing and will be watching Ravenkit while I get something to eat.” She huffed, waving her paw towards the entrance.
When Dahlia had arrived, Mercuryrose made sure that Ravenkit and Dahlia were settled into the nest before bidding them a farewell. She noticed that Waspsight was nearby, the molly released a snort and waved her tail to gain his attention “You can approach me, Waspsight.. I won’t bite your head off.” She snapped, rolling her eyes before the two made their way towards the center of the fresh-kill pile. Mercuryrose leaned down before picking up a sparrow before turning to look at Waspsight and snorted before going to a secluded part of the camp and dropped the bird and leaned down and saw that the tom was just standing there “Well, just don’t stand there. I invited you to eat with me.” She grumbled before taking a bite of the meal. Mercury - ef1fc2
