Dayfall
Windclan Warrior
A long sigh went through his nostrils as the large tom was making his way through the forest, his amber eyes remained on the ground. It was like Dayfall was prolonging his trip towards Thunderclan territory, as if he was going to wake up from such a nightmare that had been happening within his love life. His relationship with Beakrose was over, and there was no turning back now. It would had been able to cut ties with the Thunderclan Warrior under different circumstances, but something unexpected happened. His former mate was pregnant. After Beakrose had announced her pregnancy to him, Dayfall had given her the ultimatum of joining Windclan so they could be a family, or they would have to break up. Of course Beakrose had chosen the second option.
He couldn’t help but think of Beakrose being so selfish, she didn’t want their growing family together in one clan. The both had agreed to go their separate ways.. But Dayfall had stopped her, wanting custody of the kits just as much as Beakrose had. The two were in a standstill that moment, but Beakrose had agreed. If the litter was an even number, they were split evenly between Dayfall and Beakrose.. If not, Beakrose would keep the extra kit. It wasn’t until a small bump hit his shoulder that his gaze went to the figure beside him, Cactusbloom. One of his most trusted friends, he needed an alibi for bringing the kits to Windclan. Dayfall didn’t have a love interest in Windclan, Hailgaze and his family would certainly question him.
But of course Cactusbloom and Lynxtalon were happy to help Dayfall.
The pair of best friends had been trying for a litter of kits, but there wasn’t any success with the two. Dayfall had approached the pair, needing their help. The plan? Cactusbloom and Dayfall would claim they were ‘trying’ for kits and keeping a co-parenting relationship as friends, and the gray Bengal would appear out of the woods one day with the litter. It was strange for Cactusbloom to suddenly come back into Windclan claiming she had given birth with no sign of pregnancy nor milk.. But it wouldn’t be the first time happening nor the last time. After observing Littlewoods carefully, they had deemed which herbs that nursing mothers would take in order to produce milk, Cactusbloom had taken some with the clear scent of those herbs.. But it appeared no milk appeared so they would have to ‘find’ a Queen after Cactusbloom ‘failed’ to produce milk.
Cactusbloom and Dayfall would claim themselves as the biological parents, with Lynxtalon as the second father. There was a feeling of sorrow going through him, he wished that it was Beakrose raising his first litter. How could this go so wrong? Would Tinyflame be disappointed in him? Everything that he had done, looking after his family after her passing.. He did it for her. After losing her at such a young age, he wanted to keep his family together.. Would she scold him for all of this? Would she hate him for breaking his own family apart? A scent entered his nostrils which caused him to look up, milk. Beakrose was at the border already. It appeared she wasn’t alone either.
Two Thunderclan males sat beside her, Shootingtail and Spidermask. Beakrose had explained that while she would be the mother of her litter, Spidermask was the ‘biological’ father and Shootingtail was the second father. Cactusbloom was beside him, while Lynxtalon was beside her. It wasn’t until Spidermask had moved his feathery tail to show off a single kit. It was squirming, with its mouth open in a cry. Beakrose was looking at the kit for a moment, almost lost in throught. Dayfall was silent for a moment, was she changing her mind? It hit him that she probably felt guilty in a way that she had to pick which child to give up. Beakrose had moved the kit towards the middle of the border, Dayfall had leaned down to sniff the kit.
His eyes softened at the sight of her, she was perhaps the most beautiful thing that he ever laid eyes on.
Cactusbloom was looking at the small newborn kit before nuzzling it gently, it was a sight to behold. Picking up the newborn, she looked towards Beakrose and nodded. A silent promise to take care of the kit. Herself and Lynxtalon had noticed that it was silent between Dayfall and Beakrose, to which she sighed “We’ll give a moment” She muttered through the kit’s fur and moving to the side with Lynxtalon, cleaning the kit. It was a way to clean off the Thunderclan scent and giving it her own. Dayfall looked over at Cactusbloom and Lynxtalon for a moment before his gaze returned to Beakrose and the other males. Clearing his throat, he bit the inside of his cheek “What’s the other kit’s name?” He asked softly, wanting to know the kit’s name. If he couldn’t be a part of their life.. He could at least know them by their first name.
Beakrose |Free Spirit of Thunderclan|
‘This is all a mess…why did it have to end this way?’ Beakrose could not help but wonder as she sorrowfully stares lovingly at the two bundles of fur before her. It pained her that she would have to separate the two, as the two she-kits were basically identical in every way. Beak did not regret having them, as they meant more than anything to her, but she wished she had them under better circumstances. Even if she longed to be with Dayfall, she could not simply turn her back on caring for her beloved nephew, Bumble. He had wanted to stay with her while his parents and siblings left the clan after Thunderclan seemed on the brink of war. How could she abandon him when he needed her?
It angered her that Day could not understand her reason when his was just the same! He wanted to remain in Windclan for his family, yet could not fathom why she would want to do the same? It had been the last straw for Beak as she grew tired of arguing with her once best friend and love of her life. She supposed it is what she gets for falling in love with someone in another clan. It had meant to be a clean break, that they would avoid one another as seeing eachother was too painful…that is until she found out she was pregnant. A dark selfish part of Beakrose wanted to keep them for herself, to hide them away and never tell him, but he did not deserve such treatment.
He would be an amazing father, there was no way she could take that away from him. Even if they had their differences, she would never forget the pure love they had shared. Taking comfort in the presence of Spidermask and Shootingtail, her two best friends. Without them here, she was certain she would have already taken her two kits away from the border. Keeping her pineapple yellow eyes solely fixated on her two beloved kits, even when she could hear the faint paw steps of multiple felines approaching, even when she could smell the once comforting and intoxicating scent of Dayfall, she keeps her eyes casted downward.
How could she not? When she knew that once she looks away from her kits and looks over the Windclan border everything will become reality. Sighing softly as she forces herself to glance over at Cactusblossom and Lynxtalon, seeing the hopeful gleam in their eyes at the thought of being able to raise a kit. It softened Beak’s aching heart to know that her daughter would certainly be loved by many. Biting her lip when her yellow eyes land on the large two toned ginger tom, who always managed to bring a smile to her or make her heart race. Now her heart lurched painfully as she could see the inner turmoil in him, as it was obvious it hurt him just as much as her.
Quickly looking away, feeling her eyes burn as tears threatened to form. Swallowing thickly as she glances back at her two kits, Spidermask having moved his tail to reveal the two bundles. Beakrose had made the decision to bring both as she wanted Dayfall to be able to see their two daughters together for the last time. The silence was almost deafening around her, no one daring to utter a word as Beakrose stares softly at the two sleeping kits. A shuddering breath escapes her as she delicately picks up one by the scruff of her neck before placing the beautiful kit closer to Dayfall. Taking a few hesitant steps back, forcing herself to keep her distance as she silently watches Day unite with his daughter, it was a bittersweet moment.
Refraining from growling at seeing Cactusblossom approach her kit, nuzzling her scent away. Biting down on her lip harshly as she turns quickly away and heads back over to her last remaining kit and her dear friends. Her body tense as she forces herself not to cry right now, not in front of everyone. She did not even notice when Spider and Shooting left to give her a moment until Day’s voice softly breaks the silence. “Her name is Barleykit” Beakrose softly replies as she gives her little bundle a loving smile before her attention turns fully to Dayfall. Tears brimming in her yellow eyes as she asks, “Do…do you know what you are going to name her?” She asked in return. As she too needed to know the name of the daughter she carried and gave birth to.
