“Get some rest Roachy. I’ll handle everything now.” Seeing this black pelted friend back to the warrior's den, the two had quite the day together and with the sun setting it was time for them to return home. Skunkbreeze wanted to join his other half in the warriors den, but the tom had things to do. His expression was soft as he watched Roachwing leave his side so he could take the reins on figuring things out with Mellowfrost. Skunkbreeze, admittedly couldn't help the glare that developed on his muzzle when he turned to find the dusty colored warrior, he didn't mean it was just a habit at this point. The black and white tom took a step back, allowing his facial muscles to relax, unclenching his jaws as he trotted slowly towards the prior deputy. Taking a deep breath, his voice boomed louder than he expected it to, “Mellowfrost!” He flinched slightly with how harsh his own tone sounded. Clearing his throat he lowered his tone, “Mellowfrost. Would you mind joining me on a walk?” Putting on his best ‘nice guy’ grin in hopes the warrior would agree.
Pleased with Mellowfrost answer Skunkbreeze lead the way outside of the camp, ignoring the whispers and stares from the other clan members as they two left camp. Shadowclan was very much aware of the situation the three toms were in, it was obvious, he was sure they were probably taking bets on which tom would win this fight. What they didn't know was that there was no fight, indeed Skunkbreeze goal was the opposite. Skunkbreeze had thought long and hard about the decision he and Roachwing came to, it wasn’t easy but no one ever said love was easy. He had been working up the courage to have this talk with Mellowfrost, his date with Roachwign gave him the push he needed to pull the prior deputy away from the camp. The silence screamed in Skunkbreezes ears, sounds he normally couldn't hear now flooded him. Swallowing hard he turned to face the warrior, “So um I wanted to talk to you about something or well someone really.” Find a nice warm spot for the two to sit and chat, making sure the spot was clear of any debris such as leaves or sticks they wouldn't poke Mellowfrost, gesturing for the tom to sit with him. “It's more like I want to talk about someone. Roachwing to be more specific. I love him Mellowfrost, I always have. He’s my soulmate truly.” The thought of his lover sparked joy in the large warrior's life, his whole life lighting up whenever he got to mention him. His nose twitched as he brought himself back to reality, “Roachwing feels the same about me…but he also feels the same about you, if it wasn't clear yet.”
Skunkbreeze ears velcroid to his skull, him insecure? Yea right, he just didn't know how to accept the fact that there was someone else who cared for his Roachwing just as much as he did. Skunkbreeze wasn’t worried about Roachwing loving one of them more than the other, he was concerned that Mellowfrost would treat him better than Skunkbreeze ever could. Afraid that even if Roachwing loved him he’d still be left behind. “I'm not insecure Mellowfrost. I just don't know how to…how to be what he wants me to be.”
Skunkbeeze spent his entire life loving Roachwing, but in every future he saw of them, there was never anyone else in them. It was always Skunkbreeze and Roachwing, Roachwing and Skunkbreeze. Coming to terms with the idea that their future has changed is what he is struggling with. Skunkbreeze pawed pitifully at the ground, he didn't even like Mellowfrost but here he was opening up to all his feelings to this stranger. He didn't have a choice, the last thing he wanted to do was to make Roachwing think he wasn't happy with him.
“I love him, I love him so much that I struggle with the idea of letting him love another. I want to monopolize him.
“But I know neither of us would be happy that way.”
The large black and white tom's gaze moved to the prior deputy, his muzzle falling into a helpless kitten pout. His tail tucked tightly underneath him, “I want to make him happy, I just thought, I guess I thought maybe you could help me in some way.”
Skunkbreeze felt a shiver rush down his spine when he felt Mellowfrost gaze staring him down, swallowing hard the tom cat turned away, “Forget about it, its a dumb question. I'm sorry to disturb your healing.” Walking away from the brown warrior, Skunkbreeze sighed heavily he knew walking away now wouldn't solve anything. He needed Mellowfrost to get through this time, he wouldn't change if he kept avoiding the situation and only focusing on his wants and needs.
Glancing over his shoulder, his lips parted as a soft tone accompanied his words, “I want to change, I need to change for him. I want to be happy with him. Was it always this easy for you to accept loving more than just one?"
Mellowfrost
Shadowclan Warrior
Mellowfrost was settled on his side, listening to something that Juncostar was speaking about. Fatherhood had truly changed his brother, he couldn’t stop talking about Aspenkit and his little accomplishments of kithood. While his nephew was becoming a spoiled little brat, it was nice to see his brother experiencing happiness after Tigershadow’s departure from Shadowclan. The large tom was trying to relax, at least taking a breather from the medicine cat den. The former deputy hated being stuck in the den all day while he was recovering, but again he didn’t feel like leaving the den as Mellowfrost didn’t want to receive any looks of pity from his clanmates. With the help of Jasmineflame and Roachwing, his recovery was moving along well.
It wasn’t until he heard Skunkbreeze’s booming voice that caused the tom to turn his head around slowly, his green eyes narrowed and teeth almost bared into a snarl. One of these days, Mellowfrost was going to punch Skunkbreeze in the face. The black and white warrior seemed to always draw some kind of unwanted attention to Mellowfrost. If the former deputy wasn’t being shoved to the side by Skunkbreeze even if he was talking to Roachwing.. It was Skunkbreeze causing everyone to look in his direction by calling his name loudly. Come to think of it, the black and white warrior didn’t make some kind of effort to visit him in the medicine cat den. Not that Mellowfrost cared anyways, he didn’t want pity from anyone.
All Mellowfrost wanted was some kind of peace after drowning, dying and almost joining the ranks of Starclan. Hence why he stepped down as Shadowclan Deputy.
“Skunkbreeze, what do I owe the pleasure?” The cream and brown tom said dryly, eyes narrowed. It wasn’t until the black and white tom had requested to speak with him alone and Mellowfrost rolled his eyes. Great, more drama. Couldn’t Mellowfrost catch himself a break for once? Slowly getting up and stretching, the former deputy was careful to not bump into anything as he didn’t want to reopen the large wound across the back of his head after hitting his head hard enough on the ice. He wasn’t in the mood for a fight, Mellowfrost just wanted some peace and quiet for once. That’s why when Skunkbreeze spoke, the large tom narrowed his eyes.
“Listen, I’m not trying to have some kind of macho contest with you.” Mellowfrost began, settling into his spot, his muscles were screaming at him to relax but the tom was tense. The cream and brown tom didn’t like this situation at all. “I know you and Bug have history, but he also has feelings for me.. So tell me this.” The tom said, letting out a deep breath as he was trying to think of the correct words to say. He was trying to get Skunkbreeze to understand his point of view, but his patience was going away with the black and white tom. “What bothers you so much about me and Roachwing? He’s made it clear that he wants to be with more than one cat, and my own mate is fine with me and him.. But what’s wrong with you?” Mellowfrost questioned, his eyes narrowed before shaking his head “You can’t be insecure all the time, because you’ll end up driving him away at some point.. Learn how to adapt and in the end, it’s his happiness that matters.”
