Blackfire
Windclan Warrior
Hailgaze and Blackfire were known for taking their strolls around the territory, they’ve done it ever since Blackfire had become a warrior so many seasons ago. The two felines would usually have quite the heart to heart conversations, Blackfire trying her best to give some good advice to her best friend. The black and gray smoky tabby had noticed that the deputy was off lately, ever since the accident that happened with Sandadder in the middle of the clearing. Her and Eveningstorm could sense that Desertstar and Hailgaze were on edge, the two siblings were doing the best they could to keep some sort of peace as it caused tension around camp. Letting out a soft sigh as they passed the moors and were making their way towards the lake, Blackfire felt her tail twitching slightly in nervousness. Lately, she had been concerned with Startledcrow and Heatherpetal.. Or the lack of the two felines as the pair of mates had traveled into the mountains in order for Startledcrow to find the reasoning behind his dreams.
While Blackfire was happy that Startledcrow had Heatherpetal by his side, Blackfire was extremely worried. She thought that the two would perhaps be back by now.. There were times in which she couldn’t sleep at night because Blackfire was anxious about her brother and sister in-law. The only one that she voiced her worries about was with Eveningstorm, who was also worried about their brother.. Even Goldenrose had started to become worried about her daughter, and they were extremely close with each other since Heatherpetal’s birth. Once Blackfire and Hailgaze had successfully moved carefully towards the dock, the small molly laid down and her paw carefully dripped into the water. Looking over, she saw that Hailgaze was also settling next to her. Creating shapes within the water, it was silent for a moment before Blackfire cleared her throat slightly to gain Hailgaze’s attention. It was silent for a moment as light green eyes looked into scorching amber before Blackfire turned away and went back to looking down at the water
“You remember when I wanted to talk to you about something the other day..?” Blackfire told him softly, looking over and seeing him nod. The black and gray smoky molly almost felt anxious about telling her best friend about her choice. She had told Eveningstorm that she was planning on leaving Windclan to find their brother and Heather. Her litter-mate wasn’t fond of the idea, but he understood because Eve was also worried for Startledcrow. “I’m getting very worried about Startledcrow and Heatherpetal, we hadn’t heard from them for a while.. That’s why I’m going to leave Windclan and look for them.” Blackfire told him gently, not wanting to sugarcoat her choice either as she knew that he would rather have her honest opinion.
“Say something…” Blackfire begged, a frown appeared on her lips when seeing that he was silent for a moment.. Lost in thought about hearing her choice.

The spoken nickname made him sigh softly in defeat, thinking that she was still going to plead her case that she wanted to leave and search for Startledcrow and Heatherpetal. Truly he needed her to stay as his best friend and also as one of his more loyal warriors. Windclan’s future depended on every warrior it could get right now. Breathing in her scent, Hailgaze was pleasantly surprised when requested that they lay down, scorching amber eyes flickering towards her face before he gave a nod. Moving to where he was now laying on their sides, gazing at his best friend. She looked a little conflicted in her facial expression but her green eyes were clear, head tilting slightly as she scooted a little closer as she wrapped her forearms around him. Eyes widening at the display of affection, feeling slightly awkward before he let out a heavy sigh and pressed his face into the mollies neck.
Tinyflame was gone, his sense of comfort and one of the only felines to see his walls crumble was in StarClan. But right now, his walls were crumbling as he allowed himself to feel the frustration and anger he had within himself about this whole situation. Her paws were rubbing circles on his back, which calmed him down as the deputy let out a soft sigh through parted lips. Gradually lifting his head and placing his cheek upon the grass as his amber eyes glowed in the dark. She was trying to comfort him and truth be told, it was working. Calmly gazing at the molly as her small paw began to rub circles on his chest. Comfortable silence hung between them before her soft voice broke it, ears perking up before he chuckled. “I know you won’t. I just... blew up on you. I’m aware that your worried for them.” He said softly, looking down at her shoulder slightly as he contemplated letting her go, but it wasn’t his word that was final. It was Desertstar’s. “If you really want to go...” Hailgaze trailed off when Blackfire’s small paw touched his cheek, scorching ambers lifting to gaze into pale green. She wasn’t going anywhere.
Eyebrows lifted in surprise when she leaned in to press her lips against his cheek, the skin tingling and the fur along his spine standing upright. His heart swelled, finding himself speechless as he wrapped his arms around her smaller frame, pulling her in close as she suddenly hid her face in his neck. “No... no.. it just made me feel good.” He whispered softly, his muzzle pressing against one of her ears as the two best friends allowed themselves to unwind and voice their concerns. “Thank you for always being here for me. With Tinyflame gone and Pinepaw leaving with Sandadder.. I’m feeling a little overwhelmed.” He admitted softly, he had no idea how to handle his boy. “But thank you. I promise once this blows over, we will send search parties for Startledcrow and Heatherpetal.” He promised, rubbing her small back as the two relaxed in each other’s presence. To grow stronger and to fight for another day.

“Geyser..” She whispered softly when feeling their foreheads touch, closing her light green eyes as she leaned into him to embrace him. It broke her heart to hear his pleas for her to not leave him, especially in a time so difficult that he needed her more than ever to stay. Blackfire didn’t realize that Hailgaze really needed her that much, it didn’t hit her until that moment. As gray and white fur mingled with black and gray, she watched with a soft expression at her best friend. “Lay down with me.” Blackfire said softly as the two carefully moved until both of them were laying down, the small molly gathering the deputy into her arms as she brought him close to her. Her left paw went to the back of his head, smoothing down any fur that was slightly sticking up from their brief travel through the moors before arriving to the docks. Moments later her paw was traveling down to his broad back and rubbing circles against him in a soothing manner.
While the two felines looked at each other for a moment, Blackfire had a fond expression on her face when looking at her best friend “I promise, I’ll never leave you” Blackfire said, as she would never leave Hailgaze. That was her best friend in the entire world, her number one supporter. The young molly knew him for as long as she could remember. Blackfire was extremely loyal to him, and nothing would ever change that. Even when she was at her lowest, and felt the world crumbling.. Hailgaze was there to help pick her back up.. Her best friend, her Geyser. As light green eyes looked into amber, the molly felt as if time stopped around them and her heart was beating rapidly. Why was she feeling this way towards her best friend? Such a powerful feeling of loyalty, protectiveness and love. Her small paw went to move towards his cheek, and caressed softly when looking at him.
Suddenly leaning forward, her lips brushed against his cheek to kiss his cheek. Pulling away, a soft smile appeared on her face when looking at her best friend “I promise that I’ll always look out for you, and listen to you and that your thoughts and opinions are always put first.. Even in the most troubling times” Blackfire whispered softly to him, making a promise to Hailgaze, while telling him that he mattered. When seeing the large gray and white tom staring down at her, Blackfire felt her cheeks begin heating up as maybe it was a bit too much. Her black and gray head moved towards his neck, and buried her head into it as the molly suddenly became shy “Sorry, I don’t know when to shut up sometimes” Blackfire said, as it was extremely rare for her to appear shy and bashful. All she could hear was the crickets chirping their nightly song and feel Hailgaze’s breathing through his chest. It was silent for a moment, letting the two gather their thoughts about everything that had happened lately.

Oh he was so angry. Gaze literally seeing red from the way she reacted, nose twitching slightly in annoyance. How could she accuse him of not caring about Startledcrow and Heatherpetal? Scoffing slightly he could hear her paws moving across the wooden boards, his gaze narrowing as he continued to walk further away from her. He didn’t even want to look at her. Things were already so fragile between their clanmates and here she wanted to slip out in the midst of a civil dispute. He didn’t have the resources to give her supporting clanmate to help locate his sister and their former medicine cat. “Don’t you even.” Hailgaze meowed tartly, ears twitching as her paw steps shifted from the wood to the crunch of the snow. Growling lightly as she quickly trotted to stand infront of him, pupils narrowing slightly for a moment.
Amber eyes bore into light green, brows furrowed slightly in anger as he shifted to take a step back from the molly but she wasn’t willing to let him leave on such a sour note. Her foreleg wrapped around his broad back as she pressed close to his chest. Muscles tense with the anger that was still sparking through his veins but that damn nickname softened his anger as he closed his eyes. She was his best friend and being so angry with her was exhausting, even briefly. Sighing softly as she apologized, her voice breaking as he slowly placed his chin ontop of her head. He was mad because he would’ve been losing a friend for StarClan knew how long and right now he needed all the friends he could get. “Fire..” He muttered softly but he really didn’t know what to say.
She was worried for her younger brother, but he still needed her to stay. Grunting, he lifted his chin as she moved her head off of his chest, looking down at her with a frown. She was willing to stay but he could see it was costing her, letting out a sigh as he slowly lowered his head to press their foreheads together, eyes closing. “I know you want to go find them. But... I need you here. I need you here with me right now with everything going on.” Hailgaze admitted in a soft voice. He didn’t have any supported anymore, no one he could lean on that could see him weak. But Blackfire was the next best thing. “Just until Desertstar and I can get this all figured out and settled.” Hailgaze frowned softly, lifting his head off of hers as he let out a ragged sigh. “Startledcrow does have a way about him.” He agreed, his amber eyes watching her expression to see that she was troubled. “Please bare with me until we get the clan settled.. please?” Hailgaze meowed softly.

Watching her best friend for a moment, her facial expression fell and her tail dropped when he explained his thoughts. How could Blackfire think he was so selfish and uncaring before? He had so much that was going on with Sandadder’s group along with trying to keep the peace within Windclan with Desertstar. Blackfire remained silent for a moment at his final words before turning around in defeat and padding away from the docks. The black and gray molly watched for a moment before feeling a slight tear escaping her but quickly whipped it away, Blackfire was always known to be strong.. Nothing could break her.
Expect for this moment.
She hurt her best friend, made him feel like his opinion didn’t matter. The small molly quickly got up and quickly bounded towards him and Blackfire could see his ears slightly perking up at the sound of her paws crunching in the snow. Moving until Blackfire was in front of him, the two felines looked at each other for a moment before she stepped forward and her right foreleg went to wrap around his broader back. Feeling the older tom tense for a moment, Blackfire rested her head against his chest as the two were silent at this moemnt. “Geyser, I’m sorry.. I’m so, so sorry” The molly said softly, her voice breaking slightly as tears were threatening to spill again but held them in. Hailgaze knew it took a lot for her to cry, he knew her long enough to know everything about her… Well almost everything.
“I didn’t think about your emotions or others, and I shouldn’t have just thrown it at you..” Blackfire sniffled before slightly pulling away to look up at him. She could see the emotion on the gray and white tom, it hurt him that she had made such a choice and didn’t think to even ask him about it. That was her best friend, his thoughts mattered. “I promise that I won’t leave, I know you two need more support more than ever.. I cannot leave my best friend behind can I?” She tried smiling to lighten up the mood slightly. Blackfire couldn’t stand the conflict between the two, it was literally such a horrible feeling to be fighting with your best friend of many seasons. Looking up at him once more, she frowned slightly and shook her head “It’s just… An unsettling feeling, I felt like if I had brought back Startled then maybe something good would happen as he’s quite the voice of reason” Blackfire explained, as she didn’t want Hail to think that she wanted to leave for no reason. No, Startledcrow was such a voice of reason for everyone.. If he had been there during the meeting, then maybe everyone would had listened to him.

Hailgaze hesitated as he turned to look at Blackfire, brows pulling together as she asked him if he wasn’t worried about Startledcrow or Heatherpetal, feathery tail lashing. “Of course, I am worried about them, Blackfire. But I have bigger issues going on right now.” Hailgaze meowed, truthfully his little sister was at the very back of his mind with all of his worries going on right now. Her light green eyes were narrowing as she stared at him as if he had spat poison at her face. “Blackfire.. the clan is literally divided right now.” Hailgaze tried to reason with the she-cat, scorching amber eyes narrowing as well. “I cannot afford to lose a devoted and loyal warrior. Desertstar can’t afford to lose a loyal warrior to her leadership.” He was trying to figure out just how she could possibly be thinking about the two WindClanners that had left moons ago in order to pursue a supposed mission from StarClan.
“Speaking like what?” He questioned, arching an eyebrow as he gazed towards his best friend, noticing the way her fur was beginning to bristle with unease. Although he immediately closed his eyes as she echoed his words right back at him, shaking his head slightly while looking back at her. “I know, that Blackfire. I’m not saying that they abandoned their clan, but I simply don’t have the resources to send off warriors to look for them.” Hailgaze argued, ears twitching slightly as he looked away from the she-cat, lips pressing together as he began to pace along the deck, his tail lashing slightly against a wooden post. “Okay, try to make me understand, Blackfire.” Hailgaze spoke, his jaw a little stiff.
He let out a tight sigh and slowly shook his head, biting down on his tongue before grunting. “I don’t know what it is you are wanting me to say. Good travels?” Hailgaze asked with a lifted eyebrow, grunting softly under his breath. “I cannot afford to be worrying about them right now, not when I have a whole clan in shambles right now, Fire. I’m the deputy.” He meowed, shaking his head slightly as he gave a slight laugh. “I cannot stop you, but I am not telling Desertstar for you. That will be your pleasure.” Hailgaze meowed, turning on his paws as he began to walk off the dock. He had nothing more to say to her, she was worrying about felines that weren’t even here while he was worried about keeping their clan together. They had very different concerns.

The molly looked up at the sky for a moment, her light green eyes widened with amazement with how the sky looked tonight. It was clear, with the usual winter breeze hitting them once in a while. Her black and grey smoky fur was fluffed up slightly. “Yeah, it looks beautiful.” Blackfire said softly, and looked towards him with a soft smile and lightly nudged her shoulder against him. The molly was always going to be his biggest supporter, she cherished their friendship greatly. “I’m always going to be there for you okay? Nothing won’t change that.” She promised him, making sure that he knew that she would always be by his side. However the smile faded from her face by Hailgaze’s reaction about her wanting to leave Windclan along with the tom sitting up and looking at her as if his best friend grew two heads. The gray and white tom’s words stung slightly, causing the molly’s ears to pin against her head while a scowl appeared on her lips.
“Are you kidding me right now?” Blackfire scoffed, moving to get up and far away from Hailgaze as she wanted to smack him in the back of the head for his words. Narrowing her eyes as he began pacing around, her flick was flicking back and forth in irritation. How could he say stuff like that?! “So you’re telling me that you’re not worried about them?” She asked calmly, but her tone had said it all.. Blackfire was greatly annoyed by his reaction. Why couldn’t he understand where she was coming from instead of jumping to these kinds of conclusions? Of course she knew that Hailgaze was worried about his sister and her mate, but how it was worded was poor. Blackfire noticed how his voice was tight, and his body language was showing that he was irritated. Clearly he wasn’t overly fond of her choice, and it greatly bothered her because his opinion really meant a lot to her.. He knew that.
“Why are you even speaking like that?” Blackfire growled lightly, her tail lashing back and forth in irritation “‘It’s their choice.’ ”She echoed his words, while shaking her head in disapproval. “Startledcrow had a dream, he was asked to help some spirits in need. You think that Heatherpetal is going to let her blind mate travel into the unknown with who knows what creatures out there?!” She questioned, watching her best friend pacing around as he was also irritated with her words. All she wanted was for him to understand her, but it wasn’t going to happen now as the two were now in some kind of bickering match because of a miscommunication between them.
“Hail, try and understand where I’m coming from.” Blackfire said after a couple of moments, attempting to force herself to calm down. If one of them weren’t calm, then this little stand-off match between them was going to last the whole night. Both of them got along well, but also both of them were extremely stubborn and strong-willed that they balanced each other well in their friendship since they were always honest with each other. “I would like to find the proper answers for each of our families, what if their bodies were buried in some kind of snow pile and we don’t know?!” She questioned, as she needed to know that her family was okay. Hailgaze had made a point, that there was a lot of mountain to cover.. But it would only be Blackfire that would be exploring it, it wasn’t like she was asking for a whole patrol to look for them! Plus, she would come back straight away… It wasn’t like she was planning on staying within the mountains. -368e29

When was the last time he had a moment to think? Everything had been flipped upside down when Sandadder and Briarfrost had suddenly stood up in front of the clan to create chaos. The clan was split in two, with believers that Desertstar had handled the death of Wolfstar the best she could and was leading the best she could. The other half believed she wasn’t fit duty, blaming her on Wolfstar’s death and how it was handled. They didn’t like her and they didn’t like him as deputy. What hurt most was that his own family was part of the separated group that Sandadder led. Lightpaw had licked dirt in his face, which he quickly got the point from his spoiled little brother. Even Breezehowl had sided with Sandadder although he had appeared a little hesitant to leave camp, he still did so. It was disgraceful and disrespectful to their father and their way of life with this mutiny. Not to mention that Pinepaw, his own son, was arguing with him and siding with Sandadder. He was having a hard time with that, their relationship already frail since Tinyflame’s death.
Nostrils flared as he let out a slow breath, Blackfire was leading this little walk, like usual. His mind else where right now as he mulled over where Sandadder could possibly be hiding with his little group of troublemakers. Blazing amber eyes slowly roamed around the meadow before flickering towards the lake, considering the high hills and the hollow caverns that could possibly be hiding the misled clanmates. Lips pressed together with thought, ears twitching slightly as he heard Blackfire trot ahead of him, chin tilting slightly as he picked up his pace, his larger frame quickly catching up with the shorter female. She was already settled on the crooked dock, tail tip twitching as he stepped over a broken board before carefully laying down beside her, listening to the creaking wood before it settled as he let out a soft sigh. “The stars are out tonight.” Hailgaze hummed as he could see the stars reflected in the dark water below him, his tail curled over his back before he moved to where he flopped on his side, placing a paw over his muzzle. He was so stressed out he felt like he couldn’t breathe. “I really needed to get out of camp.” Hailgaze sighed, eyes closing as Blackfire was looking at him cautiously.
Ears suddenly perked up as she spoke up, his eyes still closed but he gave a grunt with a nod. He did remember her coming up to him at the clan meeting to try and speak with him, but Desertstar had taken that moment to start the meeting. “I do.” He hummed, his front paws tucking underneath his chest as he listened to her. Although he hadn’t been expecting that Startledcrow and Heatherpetal had been weighing heavily on her, he hadn’t even thought about the wandering souls. Brows furrowed slightly as he began to sit up, just looking at the female. His best friend wanted to leave at a time like this? When Desertstar and himself could use all the support they could get. Sure he missed Heatherpetal and perhaps he wondered how Startledcrow was doing but they had left willingly. “Why in StarClan would you be worrying about them?” Hailgaze asked.
His voice was tight and perhaps a little tart as he found himself slowly shaking his head. “Startledcrow and Heatherpetal left on their own, to venture the mountains. And I don’t know about you but that looks like a pretty damn big mountain.” Hailgaze meowed, his tail swishing irritably. “You choose right now to think about going to look for them? They don’t want to be found. They know the way back home if they really wanted to come back.” Hailgaze was annoyed, his best friend and most loyal supporter wanted to leave and search for her brother. Which only StarClan knew exactly where he was and how long it could take Blackfire to find them. “No. No, I can’t even believe this right now.” Hailgaze growled, shaking his head and standing up to pace the boards.
