Mellowfrost
Shadowclan Deputy
“Ravenkit?!” Mercuryrose’s panicked voice was loud in the clearing, the black and rose-gold queen’s eyes were widened as the large Maine Coon was searching for her missing son, going through every den. The Shadowclan had been sleeping, and the small black and white kit seemed to have snuck off. Originally she thought that the kit was with Juncostar, spending time with the Shadowclan leader, but Juncostar had been in the clearing with his mate Tigershadow. It had been snowing, and the little kit’s scent was starting to become stale with the snow falling. Her chest was rising and falling in panic as no one seemed to know where the kit was. Mellowfrost’s ears perked up for a moment when hearing Mercuryrose’s cries of distress and his head rose to look at the camp entrance. The deputy was curled up beside Jasmineflame, his mate seemed to have woken up as well from their nap as well from Mercuryrose.. But Mellowfrost could see it on the brown Simease’s face when it hit her that Ravenkit was gone; Jasmineflame adored Ravenkit, that was her nephew.
The pair of mates quickly got up from their nest and made their way out of the den, Jasmineflame seemed to rush to Mercuryrose to calm down the older molly as the queen was trying to explain what happened. It wasn’t until Mellowfrost saw Mintstrike looking around as well, a look of worry on the tom’s face as his son was missing “Mintstrike.” The deputy called and bounded towards him, looking around the camp once more to ensure Ravenkit wasn’t around before beckoning his head towards the entrance. Going towards Mercuryrose and Jasmineflame, he nodded “Merc, we’re going to bring him back.. Okay?” He said as he watched Jasmineflame pushing up against her in attempts to comfort her before looking at Jasmineflame “I’m sorry we couldn’t sleep in a bit more, but I’ll make it up to you.” Mellowfrost said softly before leaning down to brush his lips against her forehead “I love you, I’ll be back soon.” The deputy whispered softly to her before turning around and quickly following after Mintstrike who was already ahead of him
“Come on Ravenkit.. Where are you?” Mellowfrost said once the two toms made it out of camp, his green gaze looking around for any signs that the kit could had created while walking.. Broken twigs, pawprints.. Those would slowly start disappearing as more snow fell, and both of them were going against time as it was bound to get dark eventually.. If they couldn’t find Ravenkit, Mellowfrost wasn’t sure if the kit would survive throughout the night in this harsh weather with predators around. Turning around, he saw that Mintstrike was looking through hollowed logs and abandoned nests. Mellowfrost couldn’t help but feel horrible, as Mintstrike was Ravenkit’s father “Do you think he went to visit Peachblossom and Snarlingbadger?” He questioned, knowing that the other kit shared another set of parents and had siblings around the same age as him in Thunderclan
If they couldn’t find Ravenkit, he couldn’t imagine the feeling of devastation that would overtake Shadowclan as he was very loved in the Clan.

Muscles shaking and bones creaking, every Ince of this tom was cold to the bone. But he was trying to ignore the state of his own body, eyes gazing at Mellowfrost’s chest with each forceful push against his ribs. Mintstrike was desperately trying to jump start the deputies heart. Water was being flung from both his nose and chin as he huffed, dropping his paws back down to the ice, lowering his head to listen for signs of breathing. None. Shaking and with his teeth chattering, he did his best to wrap his lips around the Mellowfrost’s nostrils to blow air into his lungs. Ears twitched as he could hear Ravenkit calling out to him and Mellowfrost, but he couldn’t afford to stop trying to revive the other male to console his worried kit.
“C-come o-on.” Mintstrike stuttered, rearing back as he placed his paws on Mellowfrost’s side once more, applying more compressions. His heart was sinking with each forceful hit. Had he truly been too late or was the injury to Mellowfrost’s head irreversible? Despite the cold and despite the seriousness of the situation, he was praying to Starclan, praying that they wouldn’t keep another soul. Suddenly he felt a convulse underneath his paws, eyes widening as the brown tom jerked and twisted onto his side, spitting up the water and spewing it onto the ice. Holy snakes. Shakily, he pressed his muzzle against Mellowfrost’s chest, helping to stroke the water out of his throat. “Th-there you g-go.” He stuttered.
Exhausted relief left him as his deputy was now breathing and even trying to scramble to his paws before collapsing on the ice. Frowning as he quickly moved after him, leaning down to press his nose against the cheek, making sure that Mellowfrost was still conscious. Head tilting slightly as he lifted his gaze towards the shoreline, pupils narrowing and peering through the snow to see a small black figure huddled in the snow. Ravenkit was still there. Shakily, he leaned down towards Mellowfrost, his eyes narrowing. “I need yo-you to try and cl-limb up.” He shivered, back arching slightly as he felt the deputy throw his foreleg over his shoulder, turning his head as he bit into the males leg, grunting as he pulled the larger tom onto his back. Holy snakes he was heavy. Grumbling slightly as he began to move across the ice on shaky legs, breathing heavily. “Ra-Ravenkit! Let’s head h-home.” He knew he was cold, the water clinging to his fur seemed to be chilling him to the bone.
Come hell or snow. He was going to get Mellowfrost and Ravenkit home.
Ravenkit
Shadowclan Kitten
“Daddy?!” The black and white kit screeched once seeing the golden brown tom suddnely go under when the ice gave in on his weight. His golden eyes were wide with fear and the small tom was trembling, his tail tucked between his legs as the young tom was clearly scared. His daddy couldn’t die! Mintstrike couldn’t leave him! His paw began stepping on the ice but remembered his father’s words and quickly stepped
back. Ravenkit watched carefully as he couldn’t see Mellowfrost or Mintstrike for a while until suddenly the familiar view of Mintstrike’s head popped up from the ice hole and had something in his mouth. It took a couple of moments until it hit Ravenkit that it was Mellowfrost’s scruff that Mintstrikr was holding onto.. But it looked like the Shadowclan deputy wasn’t breathing.
What was happening?
“Daddy? Uncle Mellow?” Ravenkit called towards them, but there was no response as his father began pressing his paws against Mellowfrost’s side and clearing his nostrils. Uncle Mellow couldn’t be dead right? The small black and white kit watched on with a worried expression as tears were streaming down his face. This couldn’t be happening, Mellowfrost couldn’t die! It seemed like Mintstrike was panicking as well cause young Ravenkit could see his father’s chest rising and falling heavily, Watching as the golden brown tom began doing more compressions on the deceased deputy. However Mellowfrost’s body remained limp for a while, showing no signs of any life at all.
“Uncle Mellow!”
Mellowfrost
Shadowclan Deputy
The loud echoes of Ravenkit’s cries hung in the air, while Mintstrike’s pleas for him to wake up were present. Mellowfrost? The body wasn’t quite sure what that name was, who was Uncle Mellow? Suddenly one of the voices said a name: Jasmine. A couple of images went through the body of the familiar face of a brown Siamese molly, remembering the sound of his mate’s voice.. It soothed him and caused the tom to be at ease. It wasn’t until the image of a black tom popped into his head and the body felt another warm feeling, the name Roachwing popping into his head. It was like these flashes of memories of these two felines and all the memories that were shared between them and Mellowfrost. The body had no idea just who he was when waking up, but these memories were all coming back to him, hitting him like an ongoing race car. It wasn’t until it hit him.
Starting to feel the compressions on his side, the Body felt suddenly sick as one last image went through his head as it was pictured in front of him clearly. It was his vigil, Juncostar sitting nearby his brother’s body while Roachwing and Jasmineflame were seeking comfort in each other.. They lost their mate, and he was nothing but a memory.. A story that reached the ending. But it was a weird feeling, a sense of sadness that maybe he should give up and return to Starclan.. A sense that perhaps His body couldn’t physically handle the trip back home no matter how fast Mintstrike was. Suddenly feeling water trapped within his throat and lungs, the Shadowclan deputy began coughing out water onto the ice. Then it hit him, this body wasn’t going to give up.. But keep on fighting, he wasn’t raised to be a quitter. His name was Mellowfrost. “Mi-” Mellowfrost’s voice was hoarse, scrambling quickly before completely collapsing on the ice as the deputy had no strength left in him to move. The cream and brown tom’s pelt was barley rising, feeling the cold wind going through his wet fur. Mellowfrost shivered slightly, his green eyes still closed and his paws felt completely numb. The deputy was in pain, if the cold weather wasn’t going to kill him first it would perhaps be the frost bite. It wasn’t until he felt a nose pushing gently against his cheek, the deputy opened his eye slightly to see the familiar sight of Mintstrike in front of him. The tom could barley speak, as he managed to let out a “Help” But it was just a pained whisper.
He was running out of time.

𝕎𝕒𝕣𝕣𝕚𝕠𝕣 𝕠𝕗 𝕊𝕙𝕒𝕕𝕠𝕨ℂ𝕝𝕒𝕟
He felt like he was going insane, watching from the shoreline as he paced the snow and ice glazed stones. Mint green eyes narrowing upon Mellowfrost’s brown pelt, his haunches lifting with unease as he clicked his tongue against the roof of his mouth as Mellowfrost was having to take his time with getting closer and closer to Ravenkit. His wee son was trembling and he could hear the sniffles from the traveling wind, ears perking up with growing anxieties as he wanted to just curl himself around the boy. Biting on the inside of his cheek, he let out a slow sigh of relief that Mellowfrost was finally standing over Ravenkit, head lowering to check the health of his kit.
Mintstrike stopped pacing, pupils narrowing as he was gazing through the swiftly falling snow to notice that Mellowfrost was holding Ravenkit but was now setting him back down. Brows furrowing with concern as he couldn’t help but wonder if everything was okay. Ears perking up as he heard Ravenkit’s voice, his heart stuttering in relief and a small smile reached his lips as he called back. “I’m right here, Birdie!” Mintstrike hollered, his eyes solely trained on Ravenkit. At first he hadn’t noticed that Mellowfrost had stopped following Ravenkit, it wasn’t until the snow lightened up that he noticed the distance between the kit and deputy. Tail standing up straight as he moved towards the edge of the shoreline, glaring at Mellowfrost. What are you doing? He asked himself.
Ravenkit stole his attention again, looking towards his son as the small kit was getting closer and closer. “Almost there baby. Just a little further, Ravenkit. Don't look back, just focus on me.” He meowed, walking closer to where he was now standing on the ice, quickly snagging the kit by his scruff and pulling him away from the icey lake. Ravenkit was crying but he was just so damn relieved as he placed Ravenkit down between his paws, lowering his head to lick away the tears and kiss all over his sons face. “Shhh.. it’s okay.” He said softly, pressing his nose against the side of Ravenkit’s head. Although he was quickly reminded that Mellowfrost hadn’t followed after Ravenkit. “Stay right here, Raven. Do. Not. Move.” He growled the order, beginning to pad back towards the lake. Hesitating slightly when Mellowfrost yelled out to him, brows furrowing in confusion. “What are you talking about? I can get to you!” He called back, the sound of ice cracking getting louder as Mintstrike’s claws were emerging from their sheathes.
Crack!
Ice crackled as it gave underneath Mellowfrost, his friend and deputy getting swallowed by the frozen water. He wasn’t even thinking as he suddenly raced out onto the lake, his claws gripping at the snow and ice underneath his paws. Breathing raggedly with panic as he ignored the creaks and cracks beneath his own paws as he ran. The current! Which way was the current going? Getting closer and closer to the dark gaping hole created where Mellowfrost had been standing, he could see the current was moving further down of the hole, growling as he turned on his heels. Sliding slightly before he caught his footing, panting as he was running and using his paws to swipe snow out of the way. He could hear Mellowfrost banging on the ice, catching his attention as he looked down to see Mellowfrost’s eyes fluttering. “No!” He yelled, banging his paws against the ice but no use.
Panting, he noticed the ice was thinner ahead of them. “Hah!” He pushed away from where Mellowfrost had currently been, lowering himself down before jumping up and slamming his paws down upon the ice. Crack. Mintstrike was gazing down at the ice as he reared back again, dropping down as heavily as he could manage. Crack. He couldn’t give up, the ice was splintering underneath his paws but it hadn’t given in just yet. Grunting with a growl, he reared back and fell back down as he slammed his front paws down. The air was suddenly pulled from his lungs as the ice gave away, his upper body sinking into the chilling water. Hind paws scraping against the ice as he wiggled back, shaking from adrenaline as he lifted his head with something in his jaws. Sopping wet brown fur.
Mellowfrost was heavy, very heavy from the water drenching his pelt. But Mintstrike was refusing to let go of Mellowfrost’s scruff, his tail lashing as he panted around the fur. White mist huffing from his mouth, wiggling backwards as his front paws finally felt the sharp edge of the ice. Finally pulling his head up higher, he could scent blood as Mellowfrost’s head was above water but he wasn’t breathing. Struggling to even lift himself up, his front legs were shaking from attempting to drag Mellowfrost’s body out of the water. He kept having to pull back as each time he would get Mellowfrost’s shoulder out of the water, the ice would chip away. “Oh come on.” He growled, feeling panicked as he kept pulling, despite the burn in his muscles, despite the exhaustion that was seeping into his bones. He wasn’t going to give up. Shaking, he was finally beginning to gain some ground as he gave four hefty tugs, pulling Mellowfrost’s soaking body onto the ice. Panting, he was able to drag his friend further onto thicker ice. “M-m-mellowfrost.” His teeth were chattering as he dropped the toms scruff, pressing his nose against Mellow’s. He wasn’t breathing and his eyes looked lifeless. “No, no, no.” He gasped.
Mintstrike was panting as he looked down at Mellowfrost, blinking a she realized that the deputy was dead. “No..” He whispered, staring down in shock before he shook his head, water dripping off of his chin. “No!” Mintstrike growled as he moved Mellowfrost’s frozen body to where he was laying on his side, placing his front paws on Mellowfrost’s side just beneath his ribs as he began to push down rapidly, panting as his ears laid back down against his head. Dropping his paws and moving towards the front of Mellow’s snout, using his paws to cup the males mouth shut as he blew air down the nostrils. Waiting a moment before he moved back to continue his compressions. “You I-idoit. Y-you don’t get to l-leave J-jasmine. Or-r all of us” Mintstrike was growling, his voice shaky from being so cold and panicked.
Mellowfrost had to live.
Mellowfrost Shadowclan Deputy
“Ravenkit! Stay there!” Mellowfrost called towards the middle of the lake, his heart breaking at the whimpers that could be heard from the black and white kit. He could see from the distance that Ravenkit’s lower lip was trembling and tears were streaming down, Mellowfrost could tell that the small tom was afraid, anyone at this age being stranded on a frozen lake. The brown and cream tom looked towards Mintstrike and saw the look of desperation within the spotted tom but his words had hit the deputy.. Bring his boy home. Looking at the other tom, Mellowfrost dipped his head “I promise that I’ll bring him back” Mellowfrost vowed, before looking towards Ravenkit who was shaking in the middle of the frozen lake. The young deputy wasn’t a father, Mellowfrost never really knew the bond of a father and son was like due to the fact that his own father wasn’t in his life.. But he knew that it was supposed to be something that Ravenkit and Mintstrike shared.. The little family that they had with Mercuryrose.
Looking down at the ice below him, Mellowfrost took a deep breath before his massive paw stepped onto the ice, his green gaze carefully watching any signs of crack from the ice to look at Ravenkit. “I’m coming Birdie!” He called before moving until he was completely on the ice. To say that Mellowfrost was nervous was an understatement, he couldn’t screw up because it could cost Ravenkit’s life. It was more logical for Mintstrike to go onto the ice as the golden brown spotted tom was lighter and leaner, but Mintstrike wasn’t in a clear mindset to do this rescue mission as his son was at risk. Mellowfrost had to do this, it was his duty as Shadowclan deputy and a warrior within the clans.
Slowly making his way towards Ravenkit, his ears perked up at the slight sound of cracking when placing his right paw. Shit, the ice wasn’t going to hold him up for a while. Whiskers twitching for a moment, his green gaze returned to look at Ravenkit as he was slowly approaching the small tom “Birdie, we’re gonna play a similar game to beat the badger.. Ok?" He questioned as the black and white tom nodded while wiping away tears. Mellowfrost soon made it to Ravenkit and lowered himself until he was looking at the kit “You’re doing a great job Birdie, so extremely brave.. I’m proud of you.” The cream and brown tom soothed, his tail moving to wipe the tears away before moving to pick up Ravenkit gently by the scruff, turning towards the direction where he came from until his ears heard the familiar sound once more
Crack
The thin ice was starting to begin crackling more, Mellowfrost and Ravenkit didn’t have enough time. The large cream and brown tom couldn’t attempt to make a run for it, as any wrong movement would cause that ice to give in and cause both Mellowfrost and Ravenkit to go under. The young tom had to think quickly, placing Ravenkit back on the ice which caused the small kit to release a small squeak at the sensation from the cold. “You’re gonna walk in front of me, keep your eyes on your Daddy the whole time and don’t look down.. Understood?” Mellowfrost questioned while Ravenkit looked up at his uncle and nodded, trying to put on a brave face. Watching the kit as he was carefully making his way towards the direction of Mintstrike. “I’m coming Daddy!” Ravenkit called towards him, sniffling softly but remembered his uncle’s words. Be Brave. Mellowfrost was slowly following behind, but immediately stopped when hearing the cracking beginning to grow louder and looked down at cracks underneath his paws before glancing at Ravenkit who was slowly getting closer to Mintstrike.. It was all of a sudden that it hit Mellowfrost
He wasn’t going to make it to the shoreline with Ravenkit.
Noticing that Mintstrike was looking in his direction, Mellowfrost ignored the glare and focused on Ravenkit instead ‘Come on.’ The cream and brown deputy kept thinking and let out a small sigh in relief when seeing that Ravenkit had made it to the shoreline and quickly stepped off the ice and ran towards his father “Daddy, I’m so sorry!” Ravenkit said, tears escaping him once feeling his father’s warm fur as the small tom began crying. However, he noticed that Mellowfrost hadn’t followed and turned to look back with confusion in his golden eyes “Uncle Mellow?” He questioned. Noticing that Mintstrike began padding towards the shoreline, Mellowfrost noticed that the cracks were growing louder underneath him and quickly looked up at Mintstrike “No, don’t come any closer.” Mellowfrost said, raising his singular white paw to signal for his companion to stop. Feeling the blood roaring in his ears, and his heartbeat starting to pump through his chest.. He looked up at Mintstrike before suddenly the thin ice couldn’t carry the Shadowclan Deputy anymore and gave in.
The next thing that Ravenkit could see was Mellowfrost submerging into the frozen lake. His eyes widened as he shouted “Uncle Mellow!” Before seeing Mintstrike suddenly began dashing towards the direction of where Mellowfrost had fallen into the freezing water. The instant cold hit the cream and brown tom’s fur as Mellowfrost managed to take a deep breath before hitting the water. His green gaze widened slightly as he felt the current of the lake was pushing him away from the hole, Mellowfrost using all his strength to attempt to swim in a desperate attempt to get towards the hole and escape before time would run out. The deputy had spent the first three moons within Riverclan, learned how to swim from them.. But even Mellowfrost knew that this current was too strong for any Riverclan cat to swim through. Feeling his lungs starting to run out of air, Mellowfrost noticed that he was much deeper than he realized and began swimming up.
It wasn’t until noticing that Mintstrike’s figure was on top, searching for him. Suddenly Mellowfrost began kicking his hind legs and managed to bang his paw towards the ice to gain the other tom’s direction to show where he was.But it was no use as the current began dragging him away once more, and Mellowfrost’s lungs began screaming for air. The deputy was panicked, and began thrashing around in some kind of desperate attempt to see if his body could break through the ice but his head had hit the hard piece of ice and Mellowfrost’s vision became blurry as suddenly the tom saw red in front of him. He had hit his head too hard on the ice and the back of his head was bleeding, causing the area within him to grow red.
Feeling himself growing weaker, his muscles were screaming to stop swimming and his lungs needed air. Mellowfrost felt himself floating, fighting to stay awake.. But it was no use as water began entering him and the tom’s green eyes blinked for a couple of moments when realizing.. Mellowfrost was dying. As everything was slowly starting to fade to black, it was like his whole life began flashing before his eyes.

Numb with panic, he was just going through the motions of searching for his son. Mint green eyes simply scoring over the white dust that cursed the land, his eyes wide and his breathing shallow as he tried to spot a black pelt. “Ravenkit!” He hollered, his voice booming and his ears twitching for the response but he heard nothing. Damn it. Ravenkit knew better than to sneak out of camp alone in weather like this, didn’t he? Could he possibly have been taken by a predator? No, just that mere thought had his heart dropping and his stomach flipping in disgust. His boy was alive and cold. Ears perked and his head instantly swiveled towards Mellowfrost, grunting slightly as he quickly padded towards the other tom. Eyes briefly glanced down to gaze upon the small print in the snow, his heart immediately leaping to his throat. Ravenkit! Without a second thought, he was instantly running, his eyes fluttering down every now and then to follow the trail. Freshly falling snow was threatening to hide the little paw prints, brows furrowing slightly when the prints in the snow suddenly stopped.
Skidding to a stop himself, his head was turning this way and that, searching. “No no no.” He whispered in worry, his mint green eyes wide. Ears pinned back against his head as he lifted his snout, looking around the trees as he let out a ragged breath. “Ravenkit!” He hollered. Face scrunching with pain and a worried sob, his ears suddenly standing up as he could barely just detect a voice on the wind. Going silent, he listened before his chin snapped in the direction of Ravenkit’s voice screech for him. Ravenkit. Without wasting another moment he was running, his legs burning as he willed himself to get there faster. Daddy was coming. Finally he broke free from the tree line, his eyes immediately zoning in on the small trembling black furball. “Ravenkit!” He yelled, his paw immediately stepping down on the snow dusted ice. How long had he been out here? Although his deputy was stopping him from getting out there as fast as he possible could. “Get out of my way, Mellowfrost.” He growled, eyes flickering back towards Ravenkit as he made a move to pass the brown and cream tom. But the deputy stopped him again, brows furrowing as he took a moment to gaze at Mellowfrost.
Mintstrike wasn’t thinking clearly, all he could think about was retrieving his kit and curling around the little Tom to warm him up. To give him kisses and reassure him that he was alright. Closing his eyes and taking a moment to slow his breathing, he nodded to his deputy and took a step back. “Ravenkit, Mellowfrost is going to come get you! Just stay right there!” He called, tail lashing with anxiety and he stalked the shoreline as Mellowfrost began the slow trek across the ice. “Just bring my boy back.” Mintstrike said, his eyes on the small black tomkit huddle on the ice, his own brown spotted pelt ruffled from worry.

Mellowfrost
Shadowclan Deputy
Mellowfrost could see how much Mintstrike loved his son, and the bond that the two shared. It would have warmed the cream and brown tom’s heart if they weren’t in such a desperate situation. “We’ll find him, Ravenkit couldn’t have gone so far.” Mellowfrost vowed, as he wasn’t planning on returning to camp until Ravenkit was brought safely back to camp. He knew that Juncostar could manage to calm down the cats back at camp before sending out a search party, as they needed all paws on deck for this search party. Mellowfrost’s mind went back to Jasmineflame, as he knew his mate was doing everything that she could to calm down her older sister. But he knew that the brown Siamese was also slightly panicking on the inside. ‘Come on Mellowfrost, think. Where could Ravenkit have gone if he didn’t end up near Thunderclan territory?’ He thought to himself, a million thoughts in his head as Mellowfrost was trying to think of every possibility of where the kit went.
“Crap.” Mellowfrost cursed under his breath, turning to look over at Mintstrike as the tom was looking through a log to see if the small black and white tom had managed to hide there. He couldn’t imagine the worrying that Mercuryrose and Minstrike were going through, Ravenkit was their son and even Mellowfrost noticed how close the two felines were growing as not only co-parents... But even more. Turning to look around, the cream and brown tom looked down at a faint paw print that was small enough to be Ravenkit’s “Mintstrike!” He called and turned to see the golden-brown tom looking down at the singular paw print and dashed forward into the direction that it was leading towards. Mellowfrost soon ran after him, but both toms stopped when they were back to square one: There were no more pawprints. It was near Thunderclan territory, but it seemed like Ravenkit must have gotten confused or changed his mind and instead went somewhere else.
“Come on Birdie, where are you?” Mellowfrost muttered when looking around, trying to pick up on Ravenkit’s scent. The Shadowclan deputy was almost tempted to just cross the Thunderclan border and march into camp to question if Ravenkit ended up there, but it was an incredibly stupid move as those mousebrains would just assume that Mellowfrost was accusing of Ravenkit being stolen. While his green gaze scanned around the area, his ears perked up when hearing a familiar voice shouting into the distance and Mellowfrost’s eyes widened slightly when hearing “Mommy! Daddy! Help!” Ravenkit’s voice shouted into the distance, sounding frantic and desperate for someone to find him. It seemed like Mintstrike heard his son’s frantic calls for help as the other tom called for his son and ran towards the direction of his child's voice, Mellowfrost following close behind. The snow was getting worse, and the deputy wasn’t sure what Mintstrike and Mellowfrost would find whenever they found Ravenkit. Mellowfrost was praying that the kit had any predators after him, and he was merely just scared from being out of camp for too long. But judging by Ravenkit’s voice, something was very wrong as the young kit was usually very calm and cheerful.
It wasn’t until Mellowfrost and Mintstrike had burst out of the pine trees and the young deputy’s eyes widened at the sight in front of him.
It was a small frozen lake, near the outskirts of neutral territory between Thunderclan and Shadowclan, it was completely frozen. In the middle, stood Ravenkit. The small black and white tom was standing there, shaking from the cold weather but also being frightened. His ears pinned to his head and tail between his legs as his golden eyes were wide “Daddy! Mellowfrost!” The tom cried, tears streaming from his eyes as his lower lip was trembling. Mellowfrost felt his heart breaking for the poor kit, as it wasn’t his fault, he merely wanted a small adventure. Looking over and seeing Mintstrike, Mellowfrost quickly placed his tail on the other tom’s shoulder when seeing the spotted tom’s muscles tense as if ready to start running to his son in the middle of the frozen lake “Mintstrike, I’ll get him.” He said gently, as Mellowfrost wasn’t sure if Mintstrike was thinking clearly since his fatherly instants were most likely out of control: Mintstrike wanted to get his child away from whatever potential danger there was. For all he knew, Mintstrike could step into the ice and it broke immediately.
Taking a deep breath once seeing that Minstrike wouldn’t go on the ice, his white paw slowly began to step on the frozen ice. 3ae83b

Panic. That’s all he could feel settling heavily within the pits of his stomach as his mint green gaze was searching through the small cracks and crevices in the roots surrounding the clearing, searching for his little Tom. “Ravenkit!” He called out, ears sticking up as he waited for a reply. Frowning instantly when he heard nothing but Mercuryrose’s voice echoing in camp, heart wrenching at the panicked sound. Her tone alone was immediately gathering attention as felines within camp were turning their way, becoming attentive and coming to their aid. Jasmineflame was the first to answer her sisters cry, her pale green eyes flashing as she nudged another warrior out of her way. “Can’t you see shes in distress! Move.” She growled, her pale and dark brown pointed pelt ruffled with slight aggression as the other feline moved out of her way. “Mercuryrose.” She hummed softly in a tender voice, getting the mollies attention as her former mentor appeared panicked at the loss of her Kit. Ravenkit had snuck off again?
Refraining from frowning, she glanced towards Mellowfrost before she acted quickly. Pressing her flank against Mercury’s. “Listen to me now, he couldn’t have gotten far. We need to stay calm, yes?” Jasmineflame meowed gently, licking the queens ears. She was not a mother herself, but it didn’t sit well that he had been able to sneak out without getting caught. Mintstrike pulled his head out from the elders den as his name was called, turning his chin in the direction of Mellowfrost as he frowned. They wordlessly communicated with one another, knowing instantly that Mellowfrost wanted to search out of camp, eyes briefly glancing up towards the grey sky as snow was falling from the heavens. Gut wrenching, he looked back towards Mercuryrose to see that she appeared just a touch calmer with Jasmineflame whispering sweet nothings in her ear. Padding towards her, he ignored the loving interaction between Jasmineflame and Mellowfrost, having his own moment with Mercuryrose as he pressed his flank against her side and kissed her forehead. “We will find him. I promise.” He nodded as he licked her ear before pulling away from her, heading towards the entrance of camp with rushed paws while Jasmineflame looked back up at Mellowfrost. “I love you too... stay safe.” She ordered with a lash of her dark brown tail, watching him rush after Mintstrike before she looked back towards her older sister. “They will find him, Mintstrike and Mellowfrost have noses like hounds.” She said soothingly.
“Ravenkit!” Mintstrike called, the snow was already threatening to hide his ankles which made him internally panic. Ravenkit was still a small boy, could he even manage walking through this growing blanket of snow. Nostrils flared as he tried to detect his sons scent, but he was falling short while shaking his head with disappointment. “Ravenkit! Answer me, my boy!” Mintstrike yelled, his voice echoing and bouncing off of the pine trees. Ears standing up and twitching as he waited for a response, brows furrowing when he received none. Was his son cold? Stranded somewhere? Turning his chin away from Mellowfrost, he moved towards what appeared like a crooked hollow log, that would interest a kitten, yes? Quickly padding forth, he didn’t bother checking to see if another critter had made the log it’s home, instead pushing his head inside of the hole as he spoke. “Ravenkit?” He asked but his eyes narrowed as the log was vacant. His son wasn’t here either. Exactly how far had he managed to get?
Heart thumping wildly in his chest, chin turning towards Mellowfrost as the Tom spoke, head tilting as he pressed his lips together. Ravenkit was very fond of his ThunderClan family and it wasn’t completely out of the water that his son would try something so daring. But in this weather? “I mean...” Mintstrike started, looking around the woods with hesitation and doubt before he growled and shook his head. “I suppose it’s possible but would he even remember the way?” Mintstrike was mostly talking to himself, head turning in the direction of the ThunderClan border. Paws itching as he gave his deputy a desperate expression, he wanted to find his son. “It’s a good idea. Let’s check just in case.” Mintstrike nodded looking over his shoulder for a moment while lifting his chin to breathe in the scents. He couldn’t detect his son here. “Yeah, let’s go.” Mintstrike nodded, his chocolate brown spotted pelt ruffled and standing on edge as he began to trot towards the ThunderClan border, eyes wandering as they walked. “Ravenkit?” He hollered, ears standing up and tail lashing with unspoken frustration. Where the hell was his son?
