Curiosity really was a dangerous thing for Lemonpaw to possess. Dustyrose and Darkwolf had been discussing of a new hawk that had seemed to move in from ThunderClan. Perched along the border and poaching their rabbits and shrews that hid within the tall yellow grass. Although the little details didn’t concern Lemonpaw so much, what had her curious was the fact that she had no clue what a hawk even looked like. Her temples were burning with the need to know and waiting to catch a glimpse of the massive bird in the air was just not an option. Pale green eyes narrowed slightly as she stepped over the other apprentice nests, the sun was barely making it over the hillside, but Dawn was well on the way for a new day.
Small paws lightly prodded the brown and cream pelt of the sleeping feline, her angelic face peaceful in her sleep. But not for long. “Poppy…. Poppypawwwwww.” Lemonpaw whined softly as she finally lowered her chin to nudge the other she-cat awake. After a few tries, Poppypaw finally began to stir awake. Purring as her effort was clearly rewarded, her little golden tail rattled with satisfaction as those drowsy eyes of her friend looked up at her. “Shh.” Poppypaw lifted a paw to lightly press against the other apprentice’s lips, glancing around the den for a moment before she grinned with excitement.
“Come on.” She insisted, keeping her voice down so that she didn’t wake anyone else. Tail tip twitching as the short and golden colored molly finally slipped from the apprentice den, using her smaller frame to lightly push Poppypaw to the side of the den and into the tall grass so that they weren’t noticed by the slow-moving warriors.
“Come on. We have an adventure ahead of us.” Lemonpaw whispered excitedly, her pelt still fluffy from the kitten fluff that had yet to smooth out with maturity. Moving carefully and trying to be as quiet as she could possibly muster, she snuck further into the tall grass so that they weren’t caught by troublesome warriors. Deciding that they were finally far enough, the small apprentice bolted from the tall grass, giggles erupting from her throat as she finally turned her attention towards Poppypaw who was without a doubt, curious.
“Okay, okay.” Lemonpaw cleared her throat, lifting her chin. “Have you ever seen a hawk? Because I haven’t. Today’s adventure is to find the hawk that Dustyrose and Darkwolf were walking, I mean talking, about.” She snickered, stomping one foot down against the dirt as if declaring her decision.
Poppypaw stared at her friend blinking the sleep away from her eyes, her maw opened wide in a large yawn, and she stretched herself out, lightly digging her claws into the dirt and curling her toes. Her tail flicking to and fro, as Lemonpaw’s words slowly sunk into her mind. She blinked, her eyes glittering with surprise as she now stared intently at her.
“A hawk….? No, I haven’t ever seen one before. But don’t you know they’re big birds? Why, my mom says that they could come and swoop us up and then gobble us down.” She didn’t know why Lemonpaw would even want to go scouting around for a creature like that, but well… she supposes that curiosity was a tempting reason to do so. “Wouldn’t you rather look for something else? I mean, it sounds interesting don’t get me wrong, but…”
She saw Lemonpaw’s gaze glisten with fiery determination, and she realized that there was no talking her out of it. Ever since Snowdove had been washed away in the rapids, Poppypaw had become a tad more cautious – but she knew that there wasn’t anything she could say or do to change Lemonpaw’s mind once she set it to something.
“And… there’s no talking you out of this one, is there?” She inhaled deeply and gradually exhaled flashing her an adoring grin. “Okay, okay – let’s go. We just have to be careful; we don’t want to get in over our heads.” She trotted up to Lemonpaw and lightly flicked her ear with her tail tip. “Though, you can’t ever promise that you little troublemaker.”
Nothing could’ve talked her out of this, adventure was calling her name and she was all too eager to answer the call. Poppypaw evidentially gave in, unable to tell her no. Grinning from ear to ear, Lemonpaw had quiety led the way out of WindClan, no one daring to say anything. As her ear was flicked, she couldn’t help but snicker lightly and shrug her slim shoulders. “I really can’t promise that we won’t get into trouble… but it’ll be fun regardless.” Walking further through the grass, long tail swishing to and fro with excitement.
“Plus, we are just going to look at a hawk.” She declared but she also wouldn’t dispute the idea, she could see everyone’s face right now if they were to actually bring in the hawk's carcass. “But… but if we do. Then we would have total bragging rights.” Lemonpaw squealed out of excitement.
Now they just needed to pinpoint where the hawk had last been seen, which was the flower meadow. Pausing in her steps, chin turning left to right before she grinned back at Poppypaw, her savior. “Which way to the flower meadow?” She questioned curiously. Lemonpaw wasn’t afraid to admit that she had no clue where she was headed, but she did know that she would get there one way or another. As Poppypaw took the lead, she gave a soft purr of encouragement before tagging along with her friend, pale green eyes surveying the clouds. “How high do you think they fly to hide in the clouds?” She asked absentmindedly, turning her attention back on Poppypaw.
